Salted apples????? |
hi my friends in Mylot,
In some discussions about food I read that many of our friends in the US sprinkle a little salt on apples when eating. I never heard of this before. So please tell me what salting an apple is good for, mainly as we are recommended to use fewer salt to improve our eating habits. Thanks a lot. Have a wonderful day.

Anyway I am salt fast and have high blood pressure so I do not 'salt anything ever. most things have some salt in them'anyway and too much sodium is not good for anyone.

26. ucancallmedissy (2484) | 1 year ago | I think it's for the matter of flavor only. We have a special salt here for fruits, the salt is kind of reddish orange in color and it tastes salty (obviously..) and kind of spicy. I personally don't like them but my brothers love them, to add to apples, pears, and some other fruits.

27. thinkingoutloud (2445) | 1 year ago | I remember that my father used to sprinkle salt on tart, green apples only. Salt apparently reduces the bitterness and acidity and brings out other flavors. I don't salt fruit at all (I actually use very little added salt) but I've read that pepper, too, is great with fruit such as strawberries and cantaloupe. You can also serve fruit salads with a black pepper dressing:)

29. muscare (1147) | 1 year ago | Hi book, I've never heard of salted apples, and I can't say it really appeals to me. One of my friends is from the US, and some of the things she's told me about foods I've thought were unusual, but never heard the apple one. She has said that jelly, or jello, was used for all courses, not like here in Australia where it is used solely as a dessert! I've also seen people use lemon juice on watermelon, and that idea doesn't appeal either, although I will admit I'm can be fairly fussy.

book1962 (14554) | 1 year ago | hi muscare my dad used lemon juice on watermelon, and I do that as well when eating it. strangely it does not work with cantaloupe or other melons just with watermelon.
I wonder what else you can do with jello apart from making a dessert with it, I have not heard of other uses of that stuff by now. have a wonderful day.
| |
muscare (1147) | 1 year ago | I guess I'll have to try the lemon on watermelon, and maybe even salt on apples. As for the jello, my friend said it was used in salads and vegetable dishes. She hates jello now, and won't even make it for her kids.
