One Of The Reasons Why We Have Guns In Texas! |
| |
| If you were looking for a gun control controversy discussion this is NOT it. LOL! Today my man was going out to fix the garden tractor to mow our 9+ acres, well the top part around the house anyways. He comes back in and saying, "I found your copperhead!". {{{shudder}}}. I said, "where?" He showed me and, after making sure my wee son was staying IN the house, I kept an eye on it while my man went to get his .22 rifle out of the gun safe. Good thing I did, because after all that time, it had moved under our wood stack. That stack is being moved farther away from the house tonight. He told me he had 'found my snake' because I had just spied one at the front of the house the previous day. I didn't have anyone to watch it while I went for a gun and it was gone by the time I got MY gun out of the gun safe. ARGGHH! It went UNDER my house too! Now I have the major heebie jeebies! Granted the copperhead may not kill you as quickly as a rattle snake, but they are quite venomous and a bite would require an emergency room visit. AND they are known to chase you!!!!!!!!!!! So I am looking for a frog gig that I can keep handy to pin a snake to the ground until I can kill it. LOL! Frog gig, machete, that ought to handle it next time. If you show for a visit, you won't have to wonder why I look like Crocodile Dundee's woman! LOL! This is the first year we have seen any around. Know they are here but these are coming out in broad daylight. Cats are next on my list of 'must haves'. Barn kitties, I'm coming to adopt you soon!!!! Do you live where there are venomous snakes? Do you worry about them? I HATE snakes and don't care who knows it! | | | | | |

| | There are three types of venomous snakes native to KY, but I have never seen one. We live in a very residential area. All I get to see are garden snakes, lol. They are harmless but still give me the creeps. I'm not pro-gun as in carrying them around all the time, but you guys seem to keep them in a very safe place. Important when there are little ones around anyway;) | | | | | | |

| | I despise snakes and everyone whom I know knows it. I would have done just what your husband did and what you intend to do. They have no place in my world, in my pool OR in my home. Memo to self: Irish's husband 1, snake 0. Them stats I like. (C) 2008 RJScott | | | | | | |

| | I wouldn't be so bad about it had I not a child to worry about as well. LOL! Now I am 'afeared' to let him play in the back yard. Poor wee laddie, he won't know what to do if I keep him penned in the house all day long. Sigh, I am going to have to conquer my fear, but the cats will help I know! Cats are great snake killers! | | | |

| | Now you've done it. Between one lady living near San Antonio having tarantulas in her driveway and you with a copperhead viper... Let's just say you are safe from ever seeing us at your house. I'm cool with snakes. But bugs do me in. | | | | | | |

| | I don't even know if we have poisonous snakes around here, but that's not why we carry guns here in PA! Where I live, we keep them for the groundhogs and raccoons that get into the garbage sitting outside waiting for the garbage men to pick it up! Well, that and we're all rednecks and guns are a requirement!! LOL! Actually, I don't own a gun, I have bipolar so I'm not allowed to have one, but all of my family owns guns! | | | | | | |

| | There are 6 venomous snakes in my state: Copperheads, Canebrake rattlesnake, Eastern Diamondback rattlesnake, Pygmy rattlesnake, Cottonmouth, and the Eastern Coral snake. I have never seen a rattler, but I have seen plenty of copperheads and cottonmouths! The last time I saw a copperhead, my Mom ran over it on the riding mower. She saw it right before she hit it and then stood up on the seat! lol I don't blame her one bit. She finally saw that it was in at least 3 pieces, including one that it slung in the neighbor's yard, and came down off the mower seat. lol I had a huge cottonmouth in my yard last summer. It was really dry here last summer, so I guess it was looking for water. I don't have a gun, but the thing wouldn't leave, so I got in my car and ran over it. It just kept going, though. But at least it went in the other direction! I am totally terrified of cottonmouths. When I was little, we went to a lake in Alabama. My mother and her sisters were talking about some little boy who was killed in the lake by a cottonmouth. After that, I was too scared to get in the water. In high school, I was helping my biology teacher get out some specimens, when he told me to carry this big jar with a cottonmouth inside. It had it's mouth wide open. I just couldn't do it. He couldn't believe that I wouldn't carry a dead snake in a jar! lol But I couldn't. He sat it on a table right in front of me for spite. Even dead, the thing gave me cold chills. I've seen a lot more snakes around since we've had a drought. I'm thinking of getting a gun myself. I hate venomous snakes! Nah, I hate snakes, period. | | | | | | |

| | Eeww I would laugh but I can't, I can totally relate to your poor momma. I would have done the same thing. ugh, gives me cold chills. All you need is a good straight .22 rifle. It may seem big, cause it's a rifle, but they shoot straight and accurately. The shorter the barrell the better the shot you must be. LOL! You have a better chance with a rifle. We have a .22 revolver, but it'll almost bust your eardrums out. The rifle is much quieter and more accurate, althoug harder to hide away cause of size. We have lots of rattlers as well, but I just group em together for ease of writing. The only good snake is a dead snake! My husband's eyes are not as good as mine, cause he won't wear his glasses, so I had to keep watch on it. eewww again! I was poised to jump staight in the air to whatever was handiest to land on. I'm 42 but I bet, had it come after me, I could have jumped straight up on top of the house and suffered the aches and pains later for it. LOL! Better than a bite with no health insurance! ;) | | | |

| | I live in a rural area of south central Florida and we have a canal in our back yard so we not only have snakes, we have gators from time to time. My husband will not hesitate to shoot a snake, or chop it's ugly head off, but we will catch small gators and release them in the river. Right now there's one who is about 7 feet long in there and that tail is ours if we can get him. | | | | | | |

| | Yea, well this is the wild west baby. Funny thing is, we grew up around guns and nobody from my generation EVER took a gun to school and shot anybody. You are hearing about a generation that idolizes murder through movies and video games that we never had access to. A generations that isn't made to obey their parents or their elders, WE were and did obey. Guns don't have legs and cannot jump up and kill a person. A person must be BEHIND the trigger to pull it. Maybe it's not the guns but the training of the child. Ever think on that? | | | |

| | UGH!!!!!!! SNAKES !!!! We don't have venomous snakes in Jamaica. I have seen an attendant wearing several beautiful yellow snakes around his neck, at the zoo of Hope Botanical Gardens, Kingston , Jamaica, to the great delight and admiration of children. Mongoose were brought from India to kill out the snakes in the canefields, They did a good job. | | | | | | |

| | It is my first time to hear that people use gun to shot snack.Gun could be American's everyday tool.In China,if I found a snake in my garden,I should call the policemen here to help me to avoid danger and I have no gun to use.Maybe American policemen won't care about these things. | | | | | | |
