Bet You Can't Tell Bush and McCain Apart - Take the 30 Second Challenge! | | I'd heard about this ad by actor John Cusack for MoveOn.org but just saw it tonight for the first time on Countdown With Keith Olbermann; he really nails it! I urge everyone to watch it and if you agree with what you see, please pass it on to everyone you know.
http://ca.youtube.com/watch?v=NQgJl9d5KCQ
If you need more reason to watch it and pass it on, here's this - it's taken its share of hits from the likes of Newsbusters and Fox's O'Reilly who has long maintained that entertainers have every right to speak out on the issues the same as the rest of us do AS LONG AS THEY'RE CONSERVATIVES!

I'm glad that I read your post-link comment before I clicked on the link.
Why? Because your commentary tells me that this is just more of the 'same ol', same ol', Hollywood commentary.
If it was 'real news', wouldn't it be on ABC, NBC, CBS, and FOX???
If I put my faith behind Hollywood celebs, or the 'air of Hollywood', then I might end up like one of my truly favorite actors, Heath Ledger.
Why would I, or anyone else do that?
Hollywood folks have their own set of issues to deal with, which quite thankfully, do not affect 'us' in the real world.
Why then shoule we alter our perspectives so that Hollywood's perspective meets our own?

anniepa (9190) | 1 year ago | I don't think you did read mu post, Ladyluna. If what was "real news"? It's an ad, but does it count that Fox isn't real news and this ad will never run on Fox? In my opinion, it's got to be good if O'Reilly has attacked it...lol.
I must admit I also have no clue what you mean when you say why should we alter our perspectives so that Hollywood's perspective meets our own. I guess it's a fancy way of saying "shut up and act" (unless you're a Republican movie star, which must make you very intelligent)! I have to say I disagree. I've never changed my mind as to where I stand on an issue or who to vote for because one of my favorite entertainers said I should but I have no problem with them speaking their mind, making a political ad or becoming involved in any other way in our political process or in raising awareness of various problems that face the nation and the world. Some celebrities spend their free time partying and could care less if the world were to crash around around them and others are more inclined to become activists in various causes. It doesn't affect whether I continue to enjoy their work one way or another and if they do have something political to say that I don't care to hear, I don't listen. However, their fans have given them the platform from which they can voice their opinions, that is the only way in which they're different from the rest of us. This ad hasn't altered my perspective at all but I think it's an excellent ad and I happen to agree with it 100% so I chose to use this forum here at myLot to pass it on. Anyone who wishes to view it can do so and if not, that's fine too.
By the way, can I assume you didn't take the challenge...lol? Annie

xParanoiax (4937) | 1 year ago | Real news? Ha. I'm sorry, but you kinda have to really scour the stations for real news. Local news stations tend to be much better than international news.
I'm always thrilled when a celebrity decides to take a stance on something that matters, something informative...because just one celebrity can help alot.
I don't believe EVERY celebrity, mind you...or every other person I hear for that matter.
My perspective's always my perspective regardless.
John Cusack's thirty second Bush-McCain quiz is clever and thoughtful..and something you can check for yourself if you so deigned to do so.

It was quite a powerful ad that left me speechless for a few minutes. When I told my father about the ad, he said we'd be seeing more and more ads in the coming months leading up to the election. I realize campaign ads can be overwhelming, especially when the mud is being slung hither and yon, but these moveon.org ads are quite powerful emotionally. Thanks for the link.

anniepa (9190) | 1 year ago | That ad with the mom holding the baby where she says, "You can't have him" is very powerful, I agree. It has to really tug at the heart strings of every mom, no matter how old her children are. Annie

That has caused a great deal of laughter when he commits a snafu like admits to a reporter he has no idea how much gas costs per gallon for the average consumer, which leads to a multitude of sarcastic jokes. * McCain has teleprompter issues. When he's working with one, he looks like he has Alzheimer's. * Both have policies/ideologies that make me want to grab a clothes pin to place on my nose when it comes to Iraq. It is said McCain is still reliving is POW days, and Bush, he doesn't even have an excuse for being mentally AOL.

| |
| |
|
|
MoonlightSerenade (998) | 1 year ago | Nothing. Each citizen has the authority, celebrities just have access to media that most don't. People can either agree with them or not.

anniepa (9190) | 1 year ago | Nobody ever said they have "more authority" to weigh in on these issues than anybody, but neither do they have any LESS. They have more of an opportunity to be heard because WE gave it to them by making them famous, simple as that. Nobody has to listen to an ad or comment made by a celebrity anymore than they have to read what you or I post here on myLot, it's just that their forum is a bit more far-reaching than ours is. Celebrities are just like us in that some are more actively involved in various issues than others are but why shouldn't they be interested? They live in this country too and are affected by things that go on the same as we are. Maybe not economically in the same way as most of us are but some of them actually have compassion for those who are less fortunate. I guess that may help explain why, if it's in fact true, celebrities tend to lean to the left - artists are by nature more "sensitive", right?
Anyway, to continue the discussion, do you feel this way about all celebrities no matter what side of the political spectrum they are or just those on the left? It seems that's how many people feel and that's where I disagree because I think we all have the same right to speak our minds no matter what our opinions are and stars are no different whether they're on the left or the right.
