Teaching language to humans? |
|
"Don't teach language purely linguistically but draw on the students' multiple intelligences"
I think that when we teachers teach language purely linguistically we tend to perceive our students purely as "linguistic beings", not as human beings. This one sided approach is also bad for teachers, because the process of teaching and of life itself have more dimensions than a verbal code.
What's your thoughts on this? Tell us what you think is the "correct" way?

2. olivemai (2791) | 1 year ago | I am not sure what this means! I know it is easier to learn when you can hear and see and speak a word! Much better than just trying to memorize something that you do not know or understand!

Marleysa (2936) | 1 year ago | hmmm.i have to agree with you here..memorizing like a parrot is of no use in speaking a language:)

olivemai (2791) | 1 year ago | Yes, and the "real" language of dialects and slang is something we usually need to learn from other people! I like the multiple disciplines method of teaching any subject!

Marleysa (2936) | 1 year ago | Yes, that's the best method in my opinion too:)

| 3. gary_law (75) | 1 year ago | I don't think there exists a correct way in teaching methodology. But I think to inspire students and immerse them into the English Language is a good way to make someone acquire the language. The students do not learn a language from teachers, they learn it by themselves.

Marleysa (2936) | 1 year ago | That is spot on! I just wish mine would realize this and start learning..stop waiting for me to "magically" put it in their minds...lol

| gary_law (75) | 1 year ago | To inspire someone is a difficult task, and it takes time.
Teachers are always blamed for not teaching students for the exam, but I think learning a language is not only for the exam, but for the rest of their life. So what can we do? Drilling or inspiring for language classes?
