Cultural differences within a family

These are zealots and even their family can not escape. Good thing here in Manila, Philippines, i have seen muslim women who just hang their headscarf in their necks and not cover their heads. It is really so hot here that putting it in their head will make it hotter.

It's a sorry state of affairs when someone is killed over a head scarf. They also kill their daughter if she doesn't go into an arranged marriage or has an unfit boyfriend also. The sad thing is in one aspect we're taught to express our beliefs in our own ways..and there are charitys and women protests now actively working for the rights in that community, this has been going on for years the fact you hear about it now is because women are now speaking out for themselves and standing up for their beliefs; we also know it publically because lately its now illegal to kill over it..their government used to turn a blind eye to it in the past.. it's hard to find a happy medium with extremeists out there but keep faith. Actions being taken and hopefully people will be able to express their beliefs in their own way without a dominating hand x

It is sorry to hear that they killed their daughter for a paltry matter.

The traditions are a mark of their religion. No religion compels on to inflict harm on others.. The essence of all religion is " Universal brother hood" and the " Love should prevail in this world". There is no use in following the traditional practices alone, but setting aside what morals are taught in the religion.

Had the Girl, worn the head scarf, and took violence to practice.. will the religious tradition tolerate her action.

So me it is ridiculous to compel one.. to follow the old practices.. If at the young generations will, to follow.. then no problem.

This is truly shocking! Some cultures are brutal and they view women as sinners who plays virgin in the light but needs no urging in the night. Their belief is that men will commit sins at the prospect of looking at women. So to avoid men sinning they insist their women should be scarfed. But by killing they have committed mortal sin unforgivable by God.

It is tragic. But I think it was about more than the headscarf. When a woman of their culture goes in public without covering her hair she is considered a harlot. And this is the same culture that kills a female family member if she is raped. Women are property that belongs to the male head of the family.

This is very difficult for us Westerners to wrap our minds around. But when they live in our culture they have to follow our laws. So they will be punished and her death is a huge waste of human life.

It is such a tangle is created when we try to mix cultures that are so different.

How sad.

Unfortunately, that's the way things are handled in some cultures.

What I don't understand is, if someone insists on keeping those cultures and traditions alive, why don't they stay in the area of the world where that is customary, instead of trying to assimilate into our western world where they will be shunned, where their children will be torn between worlds?

If someone wants to get away from the life that is keeping them captive in those traditions, why would they continue to practice the traditions that are accepted there after they leave?

I definitely think that an aspect of culture is no reason at all to kill somebody.
Those people either have no control over their tempers or have a totally unbalanced idea about their culture.
If they feel so strongly about something like that just put the person out of the house or deny them an essential until they conform.
Killing is usually done for more serious reasons. Nowadays people kill for such nonsense its unbelievable.
They definitely should be charged for murder.

that is really sad... to kill a daughter just because of a headscarf... really ridiculous... i know that we have to preserve our cultures and heritages... but not too extreme... this is what happened when people become too extreme in trying to impose their rules, cultures, religious beliefs, etc... anything that is done too extreme will result in a disastrous consequences... that is what i thought... take care and have a nice day...

This is a big problem in society. Everybody has to adjust to the family prestige, whether he or she likes it or not.
The reason for this is not knowing the value of freedom. Freedom is a nectar, freedom is honey, one should be aware of freedom. But people do not want to give freedom to others, neither do they want to enjoy freedom themselves. People do not want freedom for themselves because freedom brings with it great responsibility. People are afraid of the responsibility.
