Another RAM question please. |

| I need more RAM for my sluggish little system. Right now I have an AOpen with a Celeron 700MHz processor. Does anyone know what type of RAM sticks I need? Or is there a program which can scan the computer and tell me what kind of RAM I have? | | | | | |

| | I don't think that you need RAM. 700Mhz is very less for a computer. Altuogh processing speed depends on the RAM too but I think that you should consider replacing your processor with a faster one. | | | | | | |

| | I found a site that did a scan and mine apparently is SD RAM. And I only have 128 Megs of RAM and am capable of handling up to 1.5 gigs. I have two slots open and only one small stick in the one slot. I'm in I think. Thanks for your help. Here's the link to the site I went to. http://www.crucial.com/index.aspx | | | |

| | The type of RAM needed is dependent on your mother board, which determines the maximum amount of RAM can put in it:is number of slots available, max size per slot, and speed of the RAM. Under Windows you can determine how much RAM you have by right clicking "My Computer" and select "Properties" and it will tell you how much RAM you have now. If the total RAM on the machine is not a multiple of 256Mg, 512Mg, or 1G and you have more than one memory chip in the machine, then they are probably different sizes and swap the smaller one. Most memory chips are labeled. | | | | | | |

| | Ooooh You are a smart one with this stuff. I did find a site that told me I have 128meg of RAM. And that it's SD RAM. Two slots open and the processor can handle up to a total of 3 sticks of 512 Megs each. Totalling 1.5 gig of RAM. Boy! after that, I feel like I can speak enough of the bufflegarbitol techy talk now... Still am not smarter than a 5th grader on this stuff though... | | | |

| | 700MHz Celeron processor. And I have no idea what the heck you are talking about. The site I went to said the MAXIMUM I could install for RAM was 1.5 Gigs. That was it topped up all the way. It might be more than I will need for some time. I mean, I've been operating with my paltry 128megs for years and it's only recently that I have noticed it getting slower. That has something to do with the programs I am asking my box to handle I bet. It wasn't that long ago that I thought dial up was zippy wowee stuff... | | | |

| | I had to go back and rescan my box. Thank you. It's a pc133. No idea what that means, but that's what it is. Thank you. | | | |

| | PC133 means the speed of your RAM type. SDRAM comes in two "speed mode". One is PC100, another is PC133. If you know your RAM is PC133, than you should get SDRAM PC133 for your new RAM. | | | |

| | The person before me is correct, as that is what I'm saying. I know there is so much to learn about computers. Mine seems to always need something new, so have looked at many web sites. Have a great week. | | | |

| | All the system that "born" in the same generation with Celeron is use SDRAM. I have no doubt about it. If you are really curious, just open your CPU case and have it a look by your self. The type of RAM is writen on the label. Why dont you consider to get a newer system? The next generation of your system use DDR or DDR2, which is have cheaper and more reliable RAM (and faster processor, too). | | | | | | |

| | I wouldn't know what I was looking at when I did it. When I was selling cars, part of the shtick was opening the hood and looking at the steam cleaned motor. My response to people who had questions? Yup! Here it is. The motor. I have no idea what you might want to know about it, but it's a motor. | | | |

| | Try system info for windows(SIW) @ http://www.gtopala.com/siw-download.html get the standalone and is a freeware. You'll here your RAM size, speed and type and free slot as well, you'll also get the model here of your motherboard so that you can search on the max RAM it could take. I've seen the crusial sites and SDRAM there is so expensive, try ebay, used RAM would be ok too they are alot cheaper. We have a user here who is in ebay and do sell that stuff. | | | | | | |

| | I really do appreciate your help. The prices shown on the crusial site are stupidly expensive. And I for one have no intention to buy off of them. I have a friend who has access to this stuff and I will check himout first. But I had already thought of eBay. I just wanted it super fast. Like, right away if I can. | | | |

| | I just had to warn you though, you won't feel much improvement with the SDRAM for they are in small sizes (I don't know if they have 512). If you could delay some more, I think it would be better to save more for motherboard + cpu + DDR as they suggested. | | | |
