How far are we technologically to actually living in a "Star Wars" civilization? email this discussion to a friend?

Let's see cloned soldiers, The whole world under the rule of a council and an interstellar police force. Occupation of distant planets and of course artificial intelligence in robots. Did I miss anything that is a necessary ingredient? Do you think we will be a "Star Wars" civilization globally by the next generation?

You may dream of occupation of distant planets but that has to be within this very solar system. Man won't be that much technologically advanced for at least 3 more generations to come. Even then, the persons who will undertake the voyage to distant solar systems will never be returning to earth ever. Plans are already underway to create a spaceship which will be the size of a small city which will be able to hold the astronomers and their next generation as the voyage will take 50 years at least. But all this won't be a possibility in the near future. And I don't see why we will be needing an interstellar police force. If aliens were to attack this planet, they would have done much earlier. Neither is there any proven existence of intelligent extra-terrestrial life. If life at all exists in other parts of the universe, that may be in the very early microbial stages which will take millions of years to evolve into intelligent beings. By that time, the human race will no longer be there to witness the rise of a new civilization. Science Fiction is, after all, only fiction. Parts of it may be brought to reality, not all. Cheers.

You Have a realistic view point about possible future events, and your grounded thoughts are greatly appreciated. But if history is prone to repeat itself, don't forget the Jules Verne fictional novel about "Twenty-thousand leagues under the sea". It only takes one human's imagination to provoke technology to quickly rise to the new horizons.

I think with the way technology is advancing we are more than capable of reaching a Star Wars civilization by the next generation or if not the next one,two generations from now, because for one we never know if any of the other planets, even planets in other solar systems, have life on them,we already have the technology to create artificial intelligence robots, and it would not take much for the world to be ruled under a council and interstellar police force, and plus I would not be surprised if the government is already attempting to make clones.

How about really far? I honestly don't see this happening anytime soon, lol. There is so much going on right now and there is still a lot that would hold back this kind of development. It would be awesome if I woke up five or ten years from now to this scene. I think there is definitely a waiting period before anything like this happens.

Jedi are sword wielders, mystical in nature, no longer part of the new regime.
---samurai

Jedi Council working under the Emperor, but no longer needed for the Emperor's new regime/plans
---Shogunate general and his council

The Emperor gained control, the Jedi no longer needed
---Meiji Emperor regain control of Japan, the samurai was no longer needed since the caste system was abolished

Pretty close.
Another example of a ruling part and personal police (police is a vague word to explain enforcement) force was the Nazi Part and its SS.

Lucas pulled examples from many historical periods, Jedi were based alot on samurai.
