to be sure that you have a completly fresh game it's best to uninstall everything and then delete all the folders of the sims 2 in your documents folder.

But you could also try to just delete your saved games and neighbourhoods and self made sims.
I think it could be enough.

If you want downloads that will work with all the expansions, you'll just have to search the sites you know already and when there is something you like to have then ask if it's compatible with all of them if it's not explicitly mentioned.

and your last question: yep, the games slows down if you do that, it's just because there is more to load for the game.
If the difference is really big it can also be that one or a few of your items have some kind of bug and have endless loops in them or something like that. But the only way to find that out is to add one item and check the game... but that can take up a lot of time offcourse...

the best you can do is to only use those items where there was mentioned that they're already been tested.

first if you download any of the items just make a list of files that you installed to the download folder so that when the item didn't work you can easily find and delete it because it will crash the game. Also make sure that you have installed the expansion pack required for the item to work. Second, I think it's better to reinstall the game if you don't know the filenames you've installed. Third, I don't have all the expansion pack. Fourth, I don't know any sites where I can download items for the sims except for modthesims2.com.. Last, my computer doesn't slow down. Just be sure that you meet all the system requirements before you install the game.. Happy gaming...

Yes! You definately get lag when playing with downloads. It sucks, but you have to find the right sites to download from. I think for you to delete what you download is to uninstall the game and then reinstall it. I downloaded alot of items for thesims.com. They have the best and easiest download system. Uuuummm, there's another site. I downloaded from The Sims Resource before, and there's another one, I would have to post you back with it.
