Why Do Men Have To Fiddle |
With things they know nothing about. It appears hubby has fiddled with his computer. And I cannot fix the problem, so I am hoping someone can help me. His pages are now far too big for his monitor. To view the pages he needs to keep moving the bar at the bottom of the page. This man frustrates me sometimes beyond frustrating. LOL Can anyone tell me if I can get it back to a smaller size please. Is your hubby/wife/partner a fiddler, what have they fiddled with and could not fix again.

1. bluerubymoon53 (491) | 2 months ago | Hi Goodie. I have had that problem from time to time. I'm the only one here who fiddles though. OK...to fix the problem of the content of the page being too large. Hold down the Ctrl button and use the scroll button on the mouse and the size of the letters will change. Scroll one way and the letters get larger, in the other direction they get smaller. I hope this helps out and I'm hoping you have a mouse that has a scroll button, too.:-D

Goodie123 (7059) | 2 months ago | Hi bluerubymoon53, it is not the actual letters that are too large it is the width of the page. Sorry I am not good at explaining things in type.
| |
bluerubymoon53 (491) | 2 months ago | hmmmmmm....dunno about that. Sometimes my email comes up that way. I don't know how to fix that. hmmm Wouldn't hurt to try what I mentioned and if that doesn't work........someone else will have to help you out with that. Dangit.

2. ellie333 (4550) | 2 months ago | Oh Goodie men always have to have a fiddle don't they LOL usually with something attached to them. I don't know too much about computers but had this happen to mine the other day and I just went into system restore and backdated it a couple of days and it did resolve it. Hope this helps a little bit but I am sure that there are some more computer aware people on her that can talk you through it better than I. Hope you get it sorted though. Ellie:D

Goodie123 (7059) | 2 months ago | Ellie, this man of mine is good at everything except computers. I do not know how back I would need to go on restore. I only remembered it as I was downloading something for him. Owwwww he is going to cop it bigtime.
| |
ellie333 (4550) | 2 months ago | If it was something he was downloading today just go back to yesterday and set for then. Mine happened when I loaded a CD rom in the other day so I just went back to the previous day and restored and all was fine again! Ellie:D

Goodie123 (7059) | 2 months ago | Hi Ellie, no it has been this way for awhile now. I only remembered it because I was downloading something for him.

Goodie123 (7059) | 2 months ago | Hi Ellie, I have had heaps of wonderful helpers, but so far nothing has worked.
| |
ellie333 (4550) | 2 months ago | Oh I am sorry that nobody was able to help. The only other thing I can think is to go back and restore to before your husband originally downloaded whatever he did and shut down and restart or if you know what he downloaded unistall it and then shut down and restart. Ellie:D

polachicago (6117) | 2 months ago | When you are on display, go to settings and choose screen size. Choose the highest possible. You should see all on one page....
| |
Goodie123 (7059) | 2 months ago | It is his desktop Pola. But it is not the font size, it is the page size. Will changing the font size make the pages smaller. I am not very computer literate, but I know heaps more then hubby does. LMAO

4. Ruthep (2597) | 2 months ago | go up to tools and full screen is probably checked click on it and all should be fine on IE anyway
| |
| |
Goodie123 (7059) | 2 months ago | Hi Ruth, when I go up to tools there is nothing there about screen size.
| |
Ruthep (2597) | 2 months ago | do you have an F11? that should correspond. Do you have 2 places for tools. I do and 1 has it but the other doesn't. Check and see if you have a second tools over toward the right hand side right on top the browser window. If you have that that is where it will be. If it isn't let me know I'll give you another place to find it.
| |
Goodie123 (7059) | 2 months ago | Sorry Ruth found it, it was under "view" Still doesn't work sorry. No worries.
| |
Ruthep (2597) | 2 months ago | worth a shot this computer is that way, my old one was different. I'll try and remember how that was.
| |
Ruthep (2597) | 2 months ago | did you try checking the text size?
| |
Ruthep (2597) | 2 months ago | Internet Explorer Zoom lets you enlarge or reduce the view of a webpage. Unlike changing font size, zoom enlarges or reduces everything on the page, including text and images. You can zoom from 10% to 1000%. Click to open Internet Explorer. On the bottom right of the Internet Explorer screen, click the arrow next to the Change Zoom Level button . To go to a predefined zoom level, click the percentage of enlargement or reduction you want. - or - To specify a custom level, click Custom. In the Percentage zoom box, type a zoom value, and then click OK.
| |
Goodie123 (7059) | 2 months ago | sorry Ruth I have searched everywhere and cannot find zoom. It seems to have disappeared from the screen.
| |
Ruthep (2597) | 2 months ago | that is why my husband doesn't do anything on the computer. If you have a mouse with a wheel, hold down the CTRL key, and then scroll the wheel to zoom in or out. If you click the Change Zoom Level button, it will cycle through 100%, 125%, and 150%, giving you a quick enlargement of the webpage. From the keyboard you can increase or decrease the zoom value in 10% increments. To zoom in, press CTRL+(+). To zoom out, press CTRL+(-). To restore the zoom to 100%, press CTRL+0. maybe you can use the keyboard to ecrease the size. Is it possible to lower wour windows bar at the bottom so you can see all of the browser window and get to the zoom thing? If nothing else works you might have to just reset to default settings.
| |
Goodie123 (7059) | 2 months ago | Sorry Ruth going backwards and forwards between two computers here. Nothing appears to work on his computer. Holding down ctrl and scrolling the mouse nothing happens at all. Using ctrl and + or - does nothing either. thank you so muchfor your help.
| |
Ruthep (2597) | 2 months ago | I hope somebody can help. I am sure someone can. I'll still try and think of something.

5. ljegbers (5699) | 2 months ago | Don't I know it. He can fix just about anything, but keep him away from water pipes (even pulling a stool off, which I'm doing tomorrow) to the computer. I think it is could be as easy as going into the control panel and changing the Display. There are certain Pixals to enlarge or reduce the screen so I hope it's as easy as that. You know, with all their stuff, you just gotta love them, sometimes..
| |
| |
Goodie123 (7059) | 2 months ago | Yeah I might love him him LJ, but he can be a royal pain in the butt. When I go to control panel and display there is nothing there about screen sizes. As I said I am not computer literate.
| |
ljegbers (5699) | 2 months ago | Yes, that's where you need to be. Resize the screen and then it will display and then ask you if this is what you want. You can expirement with screen size and just tell it you want to apply the change and it's a done deal babe. I really hope it's as easy as all that for you. There will be a message, so many seconds until it does whatever, and if you don't want it click no and try another screen size. Once you find one that's right, click yes or accept and then apply and it will take. I hope this makes sense.
| |
Goodie123 (7059) | 2 months ago | Hehehehe did all that LJ, and the darn thing wont stay chosen. Even after applying and okaying. Beyween you and Pola I might get it fixed yet. Damn men, why do we love em.

6. gantwick (586) | 2 months ago | Why do men have to fiddle? Simple. It's a guy thing. I'm constantly getting in trouble for fiddling with my computer. And it's a work computer. But I explain to the tech guys that I like to try new stuff out. Being guys, they understand - they even let me be one of the Beta testers for Vista for our office. The real reason is because we guys can't give birth. We can co-create life (which is fun), but the formation of a new being takes place within a woman. And all we can do is watch and wait. And once the baby is born, we can give it a bottle, but not nurse the kid. So we have to build stuff. And fix stuff. And tweak stuff. But to answer another part of the question, Right-click on the desktop, go to display settings, and pick a higher resolution with as many colors as you want (16-bit and 32-bit give you the most colors). The higher resolution (1440 by 900, for example) will put more "stuff" on your screen (i.e., things will look smaller, but you'll see more), whereas a lower resolution (640 by 480) will make things bigger, but you won't see as much.

polachicago (6117) | 2 months ago | I said the same thing. Maybe she should click apply instead of OK... What do you think?

Goodie123 (7059) | 2 months ago | I have been clicking apply first Pola, then when it does what it does I then click Ok.

7. Pirate_Arg (268) | 2 months ago | Without fiddling, how can you ever learn? You can not go into every situation knowing exactly how to solve your problems so you just need to try things to figure out how things work. Especially on computers. How do you think the people who can tell you how to fix your problems know how to solve them? They fiddled around and got to know their computer. In terms of your problem, you have been very vague. I'm assuming that you are referring to web pages and not pages in some sort of desktop publishing software. Which web browser are you using? Have you tried fiddling with the things that were fiddled with when the problem was caused?
| |
| |
Goodie123 (7059) | 2 months ago | Um my man is very good when fiddling with anything but computers. Sorry it is the web pages that are too large. I have had some really good advice but nothing is working for me.

8. dfn12968 (5585) | 2 months ago | I think, depending on your browser, you have to go in to your control panel and change your settings. I know I have done this, but I am not sure if that's how I fixed it. I use Firefox. What do you use? I can check and see if that's the way.
| |
| |
Goodie123 (7059) | 2 months ago | Hey D, we use IE. I have had some very good advice but nothing is working. I think I may need to get rid of the man and keep the chickens instead.
| |
dfn12968 (5585) | 2 months ago | You said it, not me....heehee! Lemme open a window in IE and see if I can figure it out. I shall return!
| |
dfn12968 (5585) | 2 months ago | What if you just reset to default settings? Here are instructions on how... To reset Internet Explorer to the default settings Close any Internet Explorer or Windows Explorer windows that are currently open. Open Internet Explorer. Click the Tools button, and then click Internet Options. Click the Advanced tab, and then click Reset. In the Reset Internet Explorer Settings dialog box, click Reset. When Internet Explorer finishes restoring the default settings, click Close, and then click OK. Close Internet Explorer. The changes will take effect the next time you open Internet Explorer.
| |
dfn12968 (5585) | 2 months ago | ohhhh...try this. At top right, there is a drop down icon that says "page". You can zoom in and zoom out. See if that works.
