What do you call your baby's pacifier?  email this discussion to a friend?

I know a lot of people have nicknames for their baby's pacifier. Like binky, or paci.
We call our son's "PoPo". I have no idea where that came from. My husband just started calling it that.
I was just curious what other pacifier nicknames are being used.

In my family a pacifier has always been referred to as a binky. Sounds funny and don't know how it originated but thats always what its been referred to as.

I think there is a brand called Binky. Maybe that is why.

I never called my babies pacifier anything becasue neither one of them had one. I don't beleive in those things. Most babies don't want them the parents stick them in the babies mouth when they are crying and the baby just spits it back out plus they can make their teeth come in crooked.

I see where you are coming from. And they are not for everyone. We were not going to use one, because I didn't want him to be overly dependent on it. But after 3 days of straight crying after we got home from the hospital, and trying everything to sooth him, we decided to give it a shot. AND it worked! It helped us get some rest, and it soothed my son. He isn't heavily dependent on it, but he uses it to sleep and when we are riding in the car. I think they are wonderful. I have read that pediatricians recommend them for sleep because it reduces SIDS.
As far as crooked teeth are concerned, I am not worried about that because he will lose his baby teeth anyway. If he is still using his pacifier when his permanent teeth start coming in, something is wrong.

Actually, the American Dental Association has announced that there are some benefits to using a pacifier. A study in the January/February edition of General Dentistry shows that babies who use pacifiers at bedtime may have a reduced incidence of Sudden Infant Death Syndrome. The ADA also recommends giving an infant a pacifier rather than a bottle at bedtime to prevent early childhood tooth decay, and they note that teething babies find relief from using a pacifier. The ADA's recommendation is to wean the child of the pacifier before the age of 2.

We called our daughters a binky or a bink. I am soooo glad to be over it! She called it a bebe once she started saying it and asking for it we knew it was time. We started with during the day then nap then to none at night. It took a few days but she now sleeps through the night. Before she would wake up and be saying bebe bebe. All you had to do was give it to her and she was right back to sleep but I thought nope I'm not doing this every night for the next year. It was gone at about 15 months.

Hopefully he will give his up with no problem when the time comes. he is 10 months old now. he uses it to go to sleep but loses it halfway through the night with out waking up.

I always referred to my kids pacifiers as a binky. My son was really attached to his. I was not going to give him one, but the hospital gave him one after his hearing test when he was about 13 hours old. My daughter loved hers for a few months, but when she was 7 months she gave hers up on her own.

How funny! I was at my aunts last week and we were all talking, we all call a pacifier a "passy". They just filled me in to how it came about and when I was younger i couldnt say it and named it passy. So it stuck now thats the family word. 20 years later and we still say it! I love it!

We used 2 names for my daughters. One was a plug. Kind of explains everything in one word. lol The other is a binky. Binky is the one that stuck and got used most often.

i also let my baby use pacifier. i hesitated for quite a few days before i bought. there are so many critistics about it,such as, affect teeth-growing, affect breatheing, and so on.
but no way worked except pacifier when my baby is crying. it save us much time and energy to calm baby down. anyway, i will try to throw it away after my baby is 6monthes old.

Haaa! When my daughter (who is now 14) was first born, we referred to it as a 'paci.' As she got old enough to speak, she dubbed it her 'whereditgo.' As in 'Where'd it go?' From that moment on that's what we called it. She grew up and was having a conversation with a friend one day and asked her friend if she ever had a 'whereditgo' when she was a baby. Her friend looked at her like she had two heads! LOL!
