Do accents make people more attractive? |
|
I was talking to someone tonight who thinks he'd never meet women based on his looks alone, which I totally disagree with. He says its his accent that pulls the chicks in and he takes full advantage of it. What do you think? Are you more attracted to a person with an accent? Or totally turned off by certain inflections? What is the hottest accent to hear?

1. dragon54u (9197) | 1 year ago | It's a toss-up between an English and an Irish accent. I think they're both attractive-like a magnet! I have no idea why. The only accent that really turns me off is a hillbilly one--not southern, hillbilly. Hard to explain, and I have no idea why.
The accent attracts me but if he shows that he's not a very nice person it doesn't matter what his attributes are...he's toast in my book.

3. Hatley (19096) | 1 year ago | hi katesmama wow he is really good looking, even me at my elderly age can see that. I would not think he would have any trouble getting a girl from what I could see. I know a lot of people do become attracted to an accent. I was never particularly attracted to a guy because of his accent or turned off either. I was attracted to my husband because of his sense of humor, and his love of his job, he was an orderly and I was a nurses aide when we met. we were both devoted to helping the sick.I think an irish accent is the most thrilling to me as I have gr grandparents who came from Kerry Ireland.

5. jerzgirl (2684) | 1 year ago | Well, let's just say it gives them an edge. Their looks will catch my eye initially, but how they speak will hold my attention longer. And, a foreign (non-USA) accent will attract my attention even before I see them, regardless of their looks. I'm not trying to date or anything, but that doesn't mean I'm dead. I can still enjoy the scenery as much as anyone!
There are some USA regional accents that I find a complete turnoff - the guy can look great, but if what comes out of his mouth fits a few accents I don't particularly like (I won't say which because I don't want to offend anyone unnecessarily), I lose interest almost immediately. That one's hard to explain because we're talking attraction - not friendship. Different levels of communication to me. But, I do think an accent can play a role in attraction. Yet, it isn't the only thing and neither are looks.

Katesmama (3222) | 1 year ago | LOL! No, we're not dead, are we. And as for the regional accents, I feel the same way. There is one accent that I just can't get past no matter what, as much as I've tried. I understand also that freindship and attraction are totally different, too.

7. makingpots (6663) | 1 year ago | Ooooooo I love me some sexy sounding accents!!!
My favorite accents are Australian and Scottish as far as the sexy factor goes. But I love an accent of any type for just general listening pleasure. I enjoy trying to figure out where it comes from.

Some of us do well at it and others struggle all their life not knowing what gift they have,

9. drannhh (7068) | 1 year ago | That is an interesting question. I don't really think in terms of being attracted to another person any more, as there are more interesting things in my life now, but I remember a time when, yes, some accents were attractive, and some were absolutely not! However, I would not want to hurt anyone's feeling here, so I don't think I'll say which was which.
There are many different kinds of accents though, some are international and others regional. They definitely make conversations interesting. It is said that if one learns another language before the age of 10 they will be able to speak it without what we know as an "accent" but after that it is trickier to get it right. I would think that would vary a bit from one person to another and from one language to another, though.

Katesmama (3222) | 1 year ago | I told you I have a friend from Pakistan, didn't I Cupid? He and I have a mutual admiration for each other's accent. And my little girl seems to speak his launguage! Those two could chat for hours! LOL

Katesmama (3222) | 1 year ago | I met him at my school, Cupid. He has lots of girl problems and comes to me for advice. He's looking for a love match, and the girl he loves is not ready for marriage (or very good for him in my opinion) and his dad is giving him to the end of the year to find a wife. They have a match waiting on him, in Pakistan, and he cannot decide. No matter who he's marrying, he's doing it in Pakistan, and I'm going with his family to see it. For a month, I think is the plan. I can't wait!
