renting carts from stores?  

Most of our supermarkets do this but we have to put a £1 coin in. If you dont happen to have a £1 coin it can be a bit of an inconvenience but you can but a token on a keyring which is the same size. The charity shops sell them and they usually cost £1.

When i first rented a cart i thought it was a little weird til i thought about and was told why the stores do that. I am all for it because it will keep carts out of parking spots and where they go and lower grocery prices.

I don't have a problem as long as I get the money back when I check out, and if it helps keep costs down, especially at this time, I'm definitely for it! Cops could be cracking down too when they see people pulling the carts down the road as well, but I realize it may not be at the top of their list...

That seems silly.

Why can't the stores install the system that wal-mart and some other grocery stores have? There are devices on the wheels on the cart that will not allow them to pass a line on the edge of the property.

We have a place in Canada called NO Frills where they do this, and omehow I still see their carts strewn around bloks where there is not a store. I guess people don't really give a dang abou the quarter, because lugging the grocceries on home on the bus is a lot harder than just loing the quarter and stealing the cart. It's really sad.

I think it is a great idea. The only time it would annoy me, is if I didnt have a quarter to use one. People dont put them back now, and they are always in the lanes or parking spots. The wind blows them into cars, and think of what else they could make the cart collecting boy do, besides collect carts.

I often wonder why Wal Mart does not implement this as a method. It would save them money. Of course the clientèle of Wal Mart and other chains are not necessarily so thrifty. Aldi's also charges for bags, and they are sturdy ones. They do not have bags blowing all over the place, they do not need to have someone go out and refill the bags when they are empty. People use boxes or bring their own. The people who shop at these places need to view thrift as a virtue. I, for one, would not mind always bringing my own bags, and temporarily renting a cart.

Aldi is the only store near me that does this.The strange thins is very ofteb there are carts from the other supermarkts dumped in my street, and the strange part is sometimes there from a supermarket which is a fair way from me.I wander I fing it amazing that anyone would walk that far with a cart, it would have to be a 40 minute or more walk, and it's not as thow you can pop a cart on the bus.

I would object. I am coming to their store to BUY their product. Why should i have to rent a cart?? I'm not the one taking them. I have seen many stores here that have a new way ot cart stealing. They have some sort of chip or something in the cart that reacts to a colored border around the store. If you go over that border the cart locks and wont unlock till a store employee unlocks it. That works and doesnt make me pay any more out of my pocket.

The first I went to Aldi's I was surprised at this system. When I inserted my coin, I saw it still exposed, and tried to take it out. Then I realized that I would get it back.
I think it is a good idea. I didn't know at first that they did not have bags for the merchandise.
