Two Questions about the Economic Stimulus Payments

Hello desertdarlene.

I am one of those whose stimulus check was withheld for back taxes.

No where in all their information did they say that would happen.

With so many people owing back taxes, it's no wonder why the economy haven't been stimulated.

I'm very glad that you received your money even if it was so late! I'm hoping I will have it before the weekend so that I don't need to check into why it's late.

I'm always a little shaky about filing online but I've done that a number of years now and everything's been fine, luckily, so I hope this is, too.

If you check on the IRS website, it will tell you if it's definitely coming. About a week before they actually deposited it, I got a notice saying to look for it.

Lloydanthony11, it is a little strange that people would owe taxes and not know it. Most of the people I know who have had this happened had their taxes done by a third party. I don't know if that makes the case for doing your taxes yourself or not, but it makes me wonder. I know it mentions in the website something it somewhere.

What happened was that I made a withdrawl from my 401K. It was not reported when I did my taxes. We caught the error and I was given time to pay the taxes on the funds I took out of my 401K.

Before I even finished paying it back, the IRS payed it back for me by using my stimulus check.

It's really no big deal. It had to be paid back one way or another.

We already have ton of environmental taxes on our gas here in California. That's one reason why our gas prices are a bit high. So, it wouldn't be anything new here.

Election is May next year. I'm working as hard as a poor boy can. (That's a guiltless money begging line as you can get)

Darlene, we got taxes now BEFORE this carbon tax went on. Now we have a NEW tax on an already taxed item. This is TAX ON TAX by the same government.

I'm all for a flat tax.

Hey Donna... good morning! It's encouraging to hear that you got your payment in time.

Seems to me that paying off the van was stimulation because it helped the entity that received the payment, and extra groceries surely put money into the enonomy... good to hear.

I think a bunch of little drops in a bucket will fill the bucket eventually. (and yes, I'm a pollyanna):-)

Katie, if that is being a Pollyanna, then my mom was also.. She passed away about 17 months ago and I do miss her so much but I can still hear her saying, "Every little bit helps, said the old woman as she peed in the ocean".. I always got a big kick out of her when she said that, I have always heard that "every little bit helps" but never in this fashion.. Have a great day.

Well, I was expecting the check today but I guess they were just sent out today so I'm a little bummed considering I was going to cash it in the morning and get some groceries.
