reflections on friends  

If someone will acknowledge me once in a while, I consider them a friend because that shows they want to be in my life. I hate it when I'm the one that always has to invite people to go places (and never get invited by them) or keep a conversation going by myself.

I have certainly tried to be but my best friend just quit talking to me for no reason. I was there for everything for her even when i did not get anything in return. My grandmother always said you will barely be able to count your "true friends" on one hand because they are so few. I am beginning to believe this now as i get older.

Yup true freins stick with you no matter what. and in here ya have to have a very broad outlook on things

I think there are two types of people, friends and aqaintances. I used to tell my kids when they spoke of their friends that they probably would not even know these kids in 10 years. A friend takes a life time to figure out. An aqauintance takes a few days,weeks,months,years to figure out. I have 2 friends that i have known for 30 + years I know they are my true friends.

I'm absolutely true friends with ppl both online and off....Many outsiders may not see it that way simple because i call it like I see it and I dont candycoat things for ppl or mince words...to an outsider I'm sure I seem harsh or NOT a true friend but the reality is thats ONE of the solid things about me that my friends love..The fact that I'm as real as you can get ya know....Another key thing with me when it comes to my friendships and the ppl I love and care about is the fact that I will and have do whatever it takes to be there for aperson..I'll give someone the shirt off my back if they need it, I'll be supportive, I'll do my best to ease their pains and sorrows etc etc and NEVER expect or ask for anything in return...I do it becaue thats how I am and when I take someone into my heart they are there forever.....

You are so rigth that a true friend will accept someone else unconditionally....and I wouldnt have it any other way in mylife ya know

True friends are quite rare these days, but I really used to have a friend in Nancy-she was everything I called a friend-when she died-the word friendship seemed to have ceased to resonate with me-I have met many people since she died, I dont see the true friendship I enjoyed in that one and only friend called Nancy-may her soul rest in peace, unfortunately for me, that peace will be so far away because frankly speaking, she went away with a piece of my peace!

I agree with that perception about real or true friends. IN addition, they are the one who will and who are not scared to give their constructive criticism for us face to face, they are very transparent and open to us of what they feel and think about what we do,say and plan..They do it talking to us right infront of us about our mistakes not because of anything else but because they want us to become a better person and better friend and that is also what we do to them. No stabbing at the back!

I am a very true friend to my friends on and off the internet. I don't have many friends now like I used to so I guess they were not really true friends at all huh? To me a true friend is there through thick and thin. Many of my friends have moved away and moved on with their lives over the years.
I would have to say my best friend ever, who is there for me and I am there for her, is my youngest daughter.

I'd like to think that I am as much of a friend as I can be to those I interact with on myLot. In this world of bits and bytes it's not possible to be as CLOSE a friend as it is with someone who is part of my "real" life.

Sometimes a "friend" (in the acquaintance sense, or online sense), needs to be like a stern mother or father in an online community.

Words typed on an emotionless screen can be misread, misinterpreted, and they can appear to be condemnation, when in fact they're meant to be words of encouragement and concern.

Yes, a real friend does accept another's imperfections and shortcomings, but that same friend, in an online environment lacks the body language and vocal inflections that are so necessary in making a point in the "real" world.

A real friend, in this online world, might be saddened by the words that need to be said but they have no other choice than to hope that the recipient of those seemingly "harsh" words will be able to read between the lines. Then, hopefully, they can see that they are neither harsh, nor meant to be harsh: They are truly words typed out of respect for the recipient.

Sometimes, as the saying goes, we are too close to the trees to see the forest.
