ellie333 (4723) | 2 months ago | Well King Stephen you were the inspiration behind this discussion as you told me my name meant light in the avatar discussion, your Highness. Quite fitting really now you spend time in a Cathedral as ornate as a palace. Your most humble servant. Ellie:D

Goodie123 (7174) | 2 months ago | It is the only brush I could find. I gave it a bit of a rinse off. Sheez some people with Royal blood are just too darn fussy.

p1kef1sh (3073) | 2 months ago | Neither would you with a bog brush stuck up your bum whilst a crazed lady gets you squeaky clean. (I love it really. Just don't tell anyone).

3. bdugas (1118) | 2 months ago | My name is Bonnie, it is actually an adjective of Scottish orgin to mean pretty or good. The old nursery rhyme claims that the child born on the Sabbath Day is bonny and blithe and good. Scarlett O'Hara's daughter by Rhett Bulter was named Bonnie Blue. A famous American bearer was Bonnie Parker who was the accomplice to bank robber Clyde Barrow. And I have to say it fits me perfectly, haha

ellie333 (4723) | 2 months ago | I was born on the Sabbath day too! Thanks Bonnie, that is a pretty name too! Bonnie & Clyde eh! You naughty girl LOL. Ellie:D

mummymo (10608) | 2 months ago | Bonnie certainly does mean pretty here in Scotland - we still use it! xxx

ellie333 (4723) | 2 months ago | A wee bonnie lassie is the expression I have heard too. I like the name Bonnie. Ellie:D

Scoop_Dogg (737) | 2 months ago | I love a lassie, a bonnie Hielan' lassie, If you saw her you would fancy her as well: I met her in September, popped the question in November, So I'll soon be havin' her a' to ma-sel'. Her faither has consented, so I'm feelin' quite contented, 'Cause I've been and sealed the bargain wi' a kiss. I sit and weary weary, when I think aboot ma deary, An' you'll always hear me singing this... I love a lassie, a bonnie bonnie lassie, She's as pure as a lily in the dell, She's sweet as the heather, the bonnie bloomin' heather, Mary, my Scots bluebell. I love a lassie, a bonnie Hielan' lassie, She can warble like like a blackbird in the dell. She's an angel ev'ry Sunday, but a jolly lass on Monday: She's as modest as her namesake the bluebell. She's nice, she's neat, she's tidy and I meet her ev'ry Friday: That's a special nicht, you bet, I never miss. I'm enchanted, I'm enraptured, since ma heart the darlin'captur'd, She's intoxicated me with bliss... I love a lassie, a bonnie Hielan' lassie, I could sit an' let her tease me for a week: For the way she keeps behavin' well, I never pay for shavin', 'Cause she rubs ma whiskers clean off with her cheek. And underneath ma bonnet, where the hair was, there's none on it, For the way she pats ma head has made me bald. I know she means no harm, for she'll keep me nice and warm, On the frosty nichts sae very cauld... I love a lassie, a bonnie bonnie lassie, She's as pure as a lily in the dell, She's sweet as the heather, the bonnie bloomin' heather, Mary, my Scots bluebell.

5. owlwings (2116) | 2 months ago | My name means 'Manly' and comes from the Greek (though it is more associated with Scotland). My middle name is that of a gentle saint who gave up a rich and fast life to become a monk. It means 'free' or 'frank'. Frank was my father's name. I don't know the real derivation of my (rather unusual) surname but it probably came from the name of a village in the Midlands where my ancestors lived when it became usual to take a surname. There doesn't seem to be a place of that name now but many villages disappeared or were abandoned after the Black Death and the Plague.
| |
| |
owlwings (2116) | 2 months ago | I found a place with the same name as my surname in Burma, not far from Mandalay. My origins are far more prosaic, though. We were probably farm labourers since time immemorial in that quiet and fertile land not far from the Welsh border.
| |
ellie333 (4723) | 2 months ago | Hi Owlwings, so summing up you are an honest man from a village in the Midlands. I think it is very interesting to know more about our names and where they originate. Thank you for sharing. Ellie:D

p1kef1sh (3073) | 2 months ago | Perhaps you were born on a shelf Goodie! Or in the attic. However, as we both seem to be of noble descent I suppose that I'd better do your back too. Just as I thought that I was all powerful too. Perhaps Ellie can shine some "light" on the matter.
| |
p1kef1sh (3073) | 2 months ago | My mother says that I was born with a spoon in my mouth too. Still didn't shut me up though. I'll still talk to you despite your humble origins. I'm kind that way. Now, if you'd just remove your boot from that rather tender spot.....
