Two rival networks are competing not just for popularity but for producing the Philippines newest singing sensation. But who has the best set of hopefuls? And who will be the next singing superstar? From which contest? the question remains...

Hi! Welcome to myLot. I really dont watch both and the only singing contest I watch is American Idol. But lately, I was able to catch a few episodes of each show. To tell you honestly, the show that keeps me interested in watching is Pinoy Dream Academy, the events are more controversial and its kinda like one huge show where there are singing, some dancing, some acting, some drama, romance, mystery, thriller, and gossip. I cant say judgements because I have only heard/seen some snippets of the PDA scholars singing but from what I have seen and thats mostly the drama happening inside their dorms and some singing recaps Id have to say that PDA has the more good-looking and talented singers. The singers there are very commercial and fit for tv. With Pinoy Idol, it hasnt really gotten my interst much unlike its American counterpart. I do think that the singers definitely have talent but I guess its just the stage or something that doesnt make each performance stand out. You see it as it is. Like when you're actually in the audience. Its real and its not full of lights and extra added effects. If I'd have to pick the next star, that would be Robbie from Pinoy Idol(not sure if he's still in,.?) or any of the good-looking ones in PDA. AFter all, its tv and showbusiness so unless you have a bit of looks, even with huge talent, you can only reach as much..

Thank you! I agree that nowadays, talent is being seconded only by the physical looks. It is very rare that you artist or singers to get famous at first because of their talent. But anyways, I respect these shows for they want to shape and mold these wanna be singers. Only that PDA is more planned than Pinoy Idol. The presentation or gala night is an obvious evidence.

Yes, these shows do provide a good training ground for serious talents. You are right about that planning thing but if you wacth closely Pinoy Idol is really kinda like its American counterpart but I think its just the editing and the extra added effects like cameras zooming in and panning out and dimming lights at the right moment are truly lacking. I guess we just have to wait and see.

although im aware of the shows, still im not fond of watching it.. i don't have much time watching television shows, my last choice would buy a dvd of that.. anyway, if you'll ask me, they're all the same, learning the disciplines of singing, but making it controversial..one thing's for sure, who has the guts to sing it with all the strength, attitude, and talent he have, would be the one to make it to the top..
