The Music You Grew Up With.......... |
| |
| I was born in 1965, and had 4 older brothers. The music of 'my era' was much less an influence on me than the music my brothers grew up with. Our home was situated with a bedroom at the front of the house. This bedroom was where the oldest brother resided, at any given time. I remember the record player in that room and the music streaming out of it. My oldest brother was married and gone by the time I was 5, so the influence came from my 'hippie' brother, "C" who's desire was to be a minister. He was the next in line to reside in the 'big brother' room. Creedence Clearwater Revival, Steppenwolf, Simon & Garfunkel, The Mama's & The Papa's, The Rolling Stones, The Beatles, Van Morrison, etc. My 'era' as the 80's and I am still fond of some of the music from that era, but let's not talk about the 70's huh? The music that moves my soul is that music which I remember coming from C's room. My brother DID become a minister and he has the largest record collection I have ever seen. Yes, they are the old LP's and player. He is quite convinced that nothing will ever beat the sound that eminates from them. What music moves your soul? Are you more fond of the music before 'your era' for some reason? | | | | | |

| | Oh yes, I forgot Cream, Jefferson Aiplane, Santana, what was I thinking? LOL! I actually like a lot of different music. Big Bands, Jazz, Blues, Country, Folk, some classical. I think my music taste STOP in the 90's though. Today's music is...well....leaving me a bit cold. I am having a hard time finding anything that I like anymore. It just doesn't seem to have the depth or the feeling that it used to. Is it just me? | | | |

| | There is some I like, but not a lot of it. Like Susan Enan, but she is hard to find. Still love Santana Coldplay Beyonce (some of her ballads are great not so much the hiphop) Willie Nelson (but I am a Texan at heart) Lyle Lovett (love him) Fred Hammond (if you like Gospel) Rachel Farrell (sp) There are still some great ones out there. I tend to be all over the place with my taste in music. Everything from Opera to Bluegrass, so never short on what to listen to. The ones I missed on my list - Joan Baez (still love her) Bob Dylan Cat Stevens Gladys Knight | | | |

| | I never followed music when I was a teen. I remember the music when I hear it but have no idea who did it or even what the song it called. There are exceptions mind you. Just not many. | | | | | | |

| | Actually my man is better at 'name that group'. LOL! I just know the words and may not be able to tell you who is playing/singing the song. He loves to do that to me, asking me, "ok, who's this?" He just likes to do it so he can show off. LOL | | | |

| | I'll bet he is good at Trivial Pursuit too. We live in a Pentium world. My brain is still in the Commodore 64 world. I just don't have room for "stuff". I "NEED" what I have for things I find important. And this stuff is nice, but just not important enough for me to focus on. | | | |

| | My favorite music, Irish, is from the 60s and 70s. That was a time when music had lyrics that could be understood. That was a time when people could dance to the music of the day rather than hop around, hands in the air waving hankies and in general not doing one hell of a lot. The music of the 60s and 70s "moves my soul" -- the music beyond that era moves nothing but a bunch of wiggling butts ... but not mine. | | | | | | |

| | LOL. So what other kinds do you like? I am varied and like anything from Big Band on, I stop in the 90's though. Can't find much after that, or...well...very little. | | | |

| | I can honestly say that I like a good mix of music, from easy listening to rock ... but I don't like heavy metal and I despise "rap." I hate rap SO much that if a DVD that I'm watching segues into a rap scene, I'll advance past it. Rap, to me is like a chiropractor is to an M.D. -- an attempt to be something but failing to accomplish it, settling for second best. (If "best" can be used in the same sentence with "rap.") In my opinion, every rap "artist" from Eminem to "Snickers" lacks talent. | | | |

| | Aw man, you had all the cool stuff. I was a 90s kid so I got to experience the pop stuff. The sugar coated sounds was popular back then, well in the mainstream anyway. I liked a lot of the stuff from the grunge era. Black Hole Sun, anyone? However, I feel like I would have fit in perfectly in the 60s and 70s. | | | | | | |

| | I was born in 1971, so the music I heard growing up was the 70's music, but my teenage years was in the 80's, and I listened to all the big hair rock bands of the 80's....lol. I remember my mom had a huge collection of LP's too, we used to listen to them all the time, some of the old country music, and classic rock. | | | | | | |

| | Having been born in 1955, I've had the blessing of hearing the best music eras of time. To me, the late 60's and 70's are the best! Phil Collins, Prince and Tupac brought the 80's music in with a thump. Some rap and hip hop I can "hang" with as long as it has a good beat to it. Groups like Creed, Nickelback and Three Doors Down have "rocked" the 90's with rhythm. Alternative music is just, OK to me. There isn't enough room on here for me to start listing the music I listen to. But, old soul and the 70's era is my "thang". | | | | | | |

| | I grew up in the 50's-60's. I'm fond of some of the really oldies, but I really enjoy the music from the 70's-80's. I guess you can say I heard it from it's puberty. | | | | | | |
