Dad, you're a bumbling idiot!

Although I am not a father I would not fall into the modern dad category. I think it creates a lack of respect to the viewer and might change the way they are viewed. I know there are a lot of Al Bundy dads out there but not all of them.

Shows like Leave it to Beaver and Andy Griffith set good examples for society.

Commercials like Canadian Tire, Home Depot and such that depict men as bumbling idiots who can't do anything right an depict women as grasping, gotta-decorate-my-stupid-house-to-compete-with-the-b!tch-down-the-street women is...well, making me hate women. lol. Do women really have nothing better to do than renovate their kitchens? Do men really want to be portrayed as guys who can't do anything right? It drives me absolutely insane, and it's gotten to the point where I don't even want to watch commercials because they're all the same.

There's a commercial where a guy is planning on fixing something in the kitchen and the woman is thinking back to all of the projects he's screwed up and demands that he give her the hammer. How would women feel if she was looking at a piece of chocolate cake or something and the guy starts thinking back to when she used to have a fat @ss and demands she give him the fork? lmao. That might be a bad analogy, but I think you get the general idea.

I don't know what they're doing.

I also noticed there was a time when the husband was really a little verbally abusive, or their tone was disrespectful. Like Archie Bunker, George Jefferson, and lets not forget Ralph Kramden.

Then it switched to where the woman seemed to put the man down, like Carrie on King or Queens, Debra on Everybody Loves Raymond.

I like the way June and Ward Cleaver treated each other...

I think they have flipped from one extreme to another. In Leave It To Beaer the father was not only respected, he had authority over everyone INCLUDING THE MOTHER. I think that society has taken this to the other extreme, after all those years o father having auhority.

As a FEMINIST (yes I am, and I'm proud of the title!!) I think the best thing to do is to make both mother and father respected equal heads of the amily without one being above the other.
