Has your phone ever dialed 911 on its own..or any other number for that matter?
Yes, I'm serious!!!!
Emergency Services came to our door about an hour ago saying a call had been made from our line and that the 911 operator had been repeatedly calling our line to try and get an answer..Of course our phone had not rang and consequently we have been spending a family day Sunday at home due to the yucky weather outside and so had not tried to call anyone today either...
Now we know our phone is all static and we are unable to call out on it and I guess we can't receive calls either!!!!
Have you ever heard of such a ridiculous thing!?!
An ambulance actually came here for nothing!
I feel so bad about that not to mention the time that the 911 operator took in trying to reach us for nothing when no one here had tried to call the number anyway and we were all fine!!!
Weird.....
Please share any similar stories or how you would feel if this happened to you!
I just want to add here that this has been occurring the static etc and being out of the phone many times in the last few months but never has anything like this occurred! It also tends to happen around a storm and then when our phone company comes they never fix it properly and now this!!!
My husband is thinking of switching phone companies...
What would you do?

It is a serious thing when they came out and we did not need them....could have been taking them away from someone that really did need them!!!

Wow that is very strange and terrible
I would for one get the Phone company to check your Line
And if they do not do the Job properly then yes change your Company straight away as that is what I would do
It is very strange for this sort of thing to happen

No that has not happened but this past Friday our own phone number dialed itself and my husband and I were having dinner. We looked at one another like how the heck can our number dial itself and ring. We did not answer it because it was so weird. Later in the day it did it again. I called the phone company and they did a test and said someone had some how illegally did some kind of over-ride to have our number dial itself and if it continued we might want to change our number. Which is not a good thing as my son who is out of town right now and his kids need to have a new number given them to reach us and we cannot get ahold of them until they back from camping way out where there is no cell phone service.
We have been getting a lot of harassing calls from someone we owe bills too and they are getting paid every month the amount of $200 a month but they want us to pay more, demanding we pay $450 a month and they are illegally harassing us for more, hubby is unemployed right now and even when he works it is subtitute teaching on call and not a lot and it suppliments his social security disability check he is almost 60 and I do not work outside the home social security said they are not entitled to anymore than $200 a month out of our check and so did the state attorney general.
We have complained but they keep calling harassing. We do plan to change the number as soon as possible but can't until next week, the phone company said if we get it unlisted and unpublished it is not legal for them to access the number nor can the phone company give it out not even to debt collectors who are already getting paid.

Oh my what a horrendous to be going through I am so sorry Celanith!
I know it is true that these bill collectors are never happy...they always want more!!! They don't care if you don't have it or if you go without eating they just want their money and it is terrible! It will be great when you get your number changed and yes I would go with unlisted then you will know exactly who has your number and it should end these problems!
Thanks so much for sharing your story here with me!
HUGS

This sounds more like a technical problem and you should call your phone company and have a technician look at the phone. Maybe the wires were crossed with the neighbors and they should have gone to his house. In our neighborhood, one box is shared between two neighbors. So possibly that 911 was for one of your neighbors. I do not if they will tell you who shared the box, but that should be a good thing to look into.
However if that does not work if there is no reasonable explanation of what is going on, I would switch phone companies or change your number. It seems like your number once belonged to someone else and someone in the phone company forgot to give the number. It also could be a cruel prank.

That sounds so familiar, I was with Verizon, for months every time it rained, my phone went to pure static. I called Verizon, they came out a few days later and it was fine.
I finally went to vonage off of my broadband. No problems, better features, half the price.
We did not have a 911 call though!

No my phone has never dialed it on its own. I have had my child dial it on accident when she was a toddler. I would switch phone companies if your phone is out that often. I mean what if something were to really happen and you needed to call 911 but couldn't? Hope you get it all straightened out.

Wow!!! Well, it's better that they come for a false alarm, than they don't come for a real emergency. Atleas they were doing their job. Don't feel bad.
I know of someone who had a phone that would autmoatically dial 911 if he held down he 9 key for too long (it's a cellphone). The guy forgot to put the key buard on the phone, and sat on it (it was in his back pocket) When he sat on it it dialed 911 and they found him at work to see what the problem was.

That's amazing because my experience is that they do not come cell phone calls in general! Also, they cannot trace cell phones (to my knowledge) and so I wonder how they found him!?

While I haven't had the phone dial itself, I've had a bad experience with 911 and NO RESPONSE. In 2001, my ex and I (still married) were having some serious problems that resulted in my obtaining a restraining order against him, as well as awarding me temporary custody of our daughter, then 7. I phoned his father to make arrangements to pick her up; he refused and told me to call the police, so I did.
I called their town police--five times from their lobby (rural town; you had to call from a land line or use the phone in the lobby). No response.
I called the county 911...unfortunately, because my phone was purchased in another county then the one I'm a resident of, they first transferred me to my HOMETOWN police. The dispatcher has a real attitude, but she transferred me. THEY didn't want the call and was about to hang up, until I complained and threatened to call the state police. I spoke to 911, who told me to call the local police where I was at...WTF? I can't get anyone and the man threatened to not allow me to see my own daughter, even though I had a piece of paper that legally gave me temporary custody! I explained the situation; got through some police office (by now it was a race to see if it was local or state that would be accompanying me).
How long did this take? FOUR HOURS!
How traumatized was my daughter? Extremely
...she was taken away by a police officer--they wouldn't even allow my mother to accompany the officer and let her go with someone familiar. She wouldn't speak to me in the car on the ride home (30 minutes). What a mess!
I've got plenty of stories of calling my local township police (basically, rent-a-cops on steriods).
And they are quite shocking!

Thanks--that was is some two-bit town that has two cops overnight. Now my ex has residential custody, which he terms as "she's going to stay here and you'll never see her again", and so far he's gotten his way. Its what he's always wanted, and now he's paying the price--she's 15!

Sorry you and your daughter had to go through all of that! it surely isn't fair to the children involved in these things!
Thanks so much for sharing and I do hape that all is well for you and your daughter now!

I have never had this happen to me I think it's weird how that did that to you.
I would be so imbarrassed if that happend to me ever. Do you have auto dial for emergency 911 on your phone? it's possbile while you were cleaning it that button got hit and you didn't realize it. They have hd calls in your situation where someone has called but was unable to respond for they couldn't speak into the phone for they did have a medical condition problem. It's their job to respond even if it was done on accident and you didn't know the button might hae been hit.
As for your phone buzzing that's not good i wuld have to agree with the others and change the phone's and or phone sevice. Has this been happening to you fr a while now? I hope you get your problem straightend out take care. :)

No we do not have auto dialing and no I was not cleaning my phone that day!
We were having a quiet family day at home and had not even picked up the phone at all that day that is why we did not know it was not working properly!
As for our phone and the static this has happened before but there are days it is fine and perfect...it is generally around when there is a storm that it acts up on us and we can't call out or receive calls...very frustrating and we have had the phone company here twice and still obviously having problems so I think it is time for a switch in phone companies!

I agree...really weird.
I think it's a mistaken call.
I mean somebody really did call
out of joke? Maybe. My only question
is how did you not hear the phone
ringing while the 911 is dialing it?
Whatever...my head is confused. I'm
just surprised that case like this do
happen.

No one called out of a joke!
The only people here all day was my husband and myself and our autistic son whom I know did not pick up the phone...in fact we had not even picked up the phone to use it at all that day because we were spending a family day at home so we did not know that our phone was not working properly either until the EMS crew arrived after dinner and it was such a shock!!!
Apparently the phone dialed it itself...
I think it is time for a new phone company!

That's incredibly weird. I do remember once when my friend prank-called 911 and the police came to her house. It was rather shocking for her sister to be alone at home (my friend left soon after she made the call) when the police dropped by. I have never heard of the phone dialing 911 without anyone operating it, however. I do wish you luck in finding a better phone company, though.
