Hundreds of Baby Penquins found Dead |
This sort of thing just breaks my heart. I just read where hundreds of baby penquins have been found dead on the beaches of Rio de Jeniero. Can you imagine such a scene? Going to the beach on holiday only to be greeted by the corposes of these precious little critters wallowing in the surf? I just cried when I read this. Those poor babies. Sometimes I curse my heart for being so tender. www.//news.yahoo.com/s/ap... The article presents three different theories as to the cause of these little penguin's deaths. One theory is that it's due to overfishing. Due to an increasing lack of food, the penguins have to go further to find something to eat, and they get caught in strong ocean currents that sweep them away. Another theory, similiar to the first, is global warming, which causes rougher seas that the penguins can't navigate safely, and they are swept away. The final theory is pollution, and oil is specified as a pollutant that may have caused the penguins to die and be swept away. Which of these theories to you think is correct? Do you have another theory? Presently, in the United States, offshore drilling is being discussed as a way to curb the US's dependance on foreign oil. If offshore drilling for oil was determined to play a hand in this, would if make a difference in your thoughts on offshore drilling? I hope you'll look at the link because there is also a photo of many little penguins that survived. They are SO cute!

1. reckon21 (1334) | 2 months ago | Awww...penguins are so cute. This news is really sad. We must do something to remedy the problem. Animals are nearing extinction and so are we if we wont do something about it. Something is really wrong with our environment today. Mother nature is now angry because of humans indifference and the animals are the first sacrifice.

bitchelf (107) | 2 months ago | Yes, it is very sad news. I think you are right that animals are the first to be sacrificed. Well, if you don't count the poor and children who are also being hurt by the awful choices we make as a matter of course.

2. Goodie123 (7156) | 2 months ago | The link will not work for me Bitchelf. What I am wondering is how did hundreds of baby penquins end up on a beach in Rio De Jeniero. They had an awful long swim to get there. That is most likely the cause of their death. Having to swim thousands of miles, to have a holiday in Rio.

bitchelf (107) | 2 months ago | I just wish I knew how these little fella's are dying. It's so sad. My heart weeps.

Goodie123 (7156) | 2 months ago | I just wish I knew why they picked Rio for a holiday. Surely there are other lovely beaches closer to home to home for them.
| |
bitchelf (107) | 1 month ago | They washed up dead there. I dont' think they chose where to wash up dead. Maybe the live ones rode on their dead comrades.
| |
Goodie123 (7156) | 1 month ago | Well they may have washed up dead there, but how come they washed up dead, so far from where they live. That is what I want to know.
| |
bitchelf (107) | 1 month ago | Yeah, me too. Sounds like a scam, now that you bring it up. I can't believe that no one else cares about baby penguins but they'll respond to some discussion about what we forget at the supermarket.

Goodie123 (7156) | 1 month ago | I think more people should have responded to you also. Baby penquins are more important then forgetting bum-paper at the shop.
| |
bitchelf (107) | 1 month ago | I imagine it's the bum paper that's killing the baby penguins anyway. All the damn cruise ship people throwing it over board.
| |
Goodie123 (7156) | 1 month ago | I do not throw mine overboard, I am a responsible person. I put it in my pocket.
| |
bitchelf (107) | 1 month ago | You mean you put shite stained bum paper in yo pocket? Eeeeewwwwwww But still, more power to you. You're savig baby penquins.
| |
Goodie123 (7156) | 1 month ago | Well I did not want the baby penquins choking on it.

bitchelf (107) | 1 month ago | Kindly look at my response to you in the post below.

bitchelf (107) | 1 month ago | Sssshhh. Let's not bring this to Ms. Goodie's attention. She is really quite a gal! I feel really bad I got all in her face.

Goodie123 (7156) | 1 month ago | You do not feel bad at all Bitchelf. You got in my face because you were too dumb to check for yourself. p------

bitchelf (107) | 1 month ago | Please forgive me, Ms. Goodie. I DID look, but somehow I missed it. I am quite ashamed that I thought so badly of you, esp. since you're the only person who has been so kind to me here. I was just so terribly upset when I saw you being so mean to me and I overreacted. I am a big enough woman to admit when I have made a mistake and I am sorry.

Goodie123 (7156) | 1 month ago | I am so ashamed of myself I misunderstood what you were saying. How terrible that I have been the only one here who has been nice to you. I think you are a lovely person Bitchelf.

4. myklj999 (4243) | 1 month ago | Man, can you imagine the stink of all those dead rotting corpses? Is a shame though. I hate to see anything like this happen to anything but people; people usually deserve it, you know?

| skallagrim (46) | 1 month ago | okay, this article makes more sense than the subject as described above. i thought we were talking about baby chicks, but it's really just young adults. it's still saddening no matter how old they are.:(

bitchelf (107) | 4 days ago | Thanks for the link. That was thoughtful of you. I'm not surprised I made a mistake typing in my link. A lot of people are for crap, but I don't think that people deserve to die like that.

myklj999 (4243) | 4 days ago | I saw your comment pop up in my email and was almost afraid to open it, because I couldn't remember if I had been a smarta$$ or serious when I answered. Thankfully, looks like I pretty much answered seriously... Although actually I would hate to see hundreds of people die, there are a couple that it really wouldn't bug me about, y'know?

| 5. skallagrim (46) | 1 month ago | i think this article is inaccurate because baby penguins don't go in the water so how did they "wash up" dead? if they're dead on the shore, it's because something stopped their parents from coming back to feed them, not because they came in with the tide. baby penguins don't even attempt to go into the water until they've grown quite large, have shed their down feathers and grown their dense waterproof feathers. the reason for this being that until they have fledged, they are unable to regulate their own body temperature and the cold seas would kill them. the thing about "rough seas" doesn't make any sense either because penguins spend the majority of their life at sea and only go on land to mate. global warming is only causing problems for their reproduction because of the melting of safe ice for the babies to stay, but this only a problem for about 3 or 4 species. these would have to be adults that are dying either because a lack of food or pollution.
