Ford vs Toyota Just something else to think about. | | Ford has spent the last thirty years moving all its factories out of the US, claiming they can't make money paying American wages. Toyota has spent the last thirty years building more than a dozen plants inside the US The last quarter's results: Toyota makes 4 billion in profits while Ford racked up 9 billion in losses. Ford folks are still scratching their heads. IF THIS WASN'T SO!@#$% SAD IT MIGHT BE FUNNY

Sounds like the Government has a connection with foreign car companies to protect them and keep them here. Like the large frame recall Toyaot has out right now that most Americans do not even know about. Correct alot of ford work in assembly and parts are sublet out to other countries but the foreign cars are not solely made in America either. Alot is to blame on the union which is killing the automakers.

I am not particularly sure what kind of perks they get. But it could range from anything like tax rebates to imports discounts. With perks like that I am not the least bit surprise that Toyota can make it better than Ford. Plus, Toyota makes one heck of a good car! Making it big by mass producing, thus bringing cost down and translating these cost savings to the user. And when the car is cheap, more people will buy. Everything is about the dollar now. If Ford can afford to get that kind of business model and strategy going for them, I am sure they can out do the Toyotas anytime. There must be something that they are not doing right that is causing them to lose money year after year.

eeyore39 (1360) | 4 weeks ago | I think Ford, GM and Chrysler have had the market cornered in this country for ever. Now comes Toyota, Honda and maybe a couple other less known ones. They not only are building a better product but seem to be one step ahead of our companies in making the cars the people want to buy. You are right. Toyota makes one heck of a car and truck. They are no longer much cheaper than our cars but they are much better built, last forever and do well with gas/gal. I am not sure that Ford can come back. They will be around but they will be sucking the wind of Toyota and Honda for several years to come unless something major happens. Thanks for your view point.

ahgong (1830) | 4 weeks ago | Well, looking at the few TV show I have of the car industry in the US, it seems that Ford, Chrysler and GM are going into the higher end car market. With the latest models like the Hummer Limo, the Cobra, they seem to be trying to shift their target market to the rich and the well off. So it is not surprising that the research and efforts to making better and cheaper cars for the common man is lacking somewhat. Which is why Honda, Toyota and other japanese makes are taking over the markets with. Unless Ford wakes up and see the big picture, they will have a long road to go on the recovery of the domestic markets.
