Did he really die on the cross or did he survive and escape? |
|
What do you believe? Do you believe, as the Gospels say, the Jesus died on the cross, rose in three days, and ascended to heaven? I have read so many conflicting views of the crucifixion and death of Christ. I recently read Osho's take on the matter. It is a popular theory, according to which, Jesus was crucified on the afternoon of Friday, just before to Jewish Sabbath, as per the conspiracy between a rich well wisher and Pontius Pilate. On Saturday, the Jews don't do any work, it being their Sabbath. Jesus was brought down from the cross in six hours. Six hours is not enough for a victim of crucifixion to die. He needs at least two to six days to die. Christ, being a young, strong male did not die; he just lost consciousness. He was laid to rest in a tomb and then his friends helped him to escape to Kashmir, India, where he lived to a ripe old age of 110. The Gnostics have a slightly different version. They say he escaped with his wife, Mary Magdalene to France and proceeded to preach and have children. Have you read any other version? What do you personally believe and why? Cheers and happy mylotting

2. angelia286 (521) | 3 months ago | Well, I would have to say you have to be really careful about such discussions, especially where religion is concerned. I had never heard of the two stories that were told by you. Lol. Personally, I am a free thinker and interesting as this type of conspiracy issues are (think da vinci code), I would rather tread carefully rather than offend anybody. Hmm, but if you were to ask me, I think the two conspiracies issues is quite viable, the more I think about it. Anyway, will update in a day or two, when I research more about it. (Sorry I am rambling on and going offtopic, but I like this type of conspiracy discussions )

positiveminded1977 (2801) | 3 months ago | Hi angelia, thanks so much for the response! Yes, I agree I can get into trouble for this. But these controversies aren't new. The Internet is full of them; loads of books are written on the subject.:) I don't mean any offense to any faith. But, I am really interested in God and religion, and this little discussion is simply an attempt on my part to know what various people think. Cheers!

| bajahranks (33) | 3 months ago | According to the bible John 19:31-34 the Jews would not allow anyone to stay on the cross on the sabbath so they would break the legs of the prisoners to speed up the death. But when they came to Jesus they found that he was already dead but to make sure they pierced him in the side. Now lets say that he survived the cruucifixion and was taken down with a stab wound to the side. In my country so far we have had 19 homicides for the year and more than half of them were as a result of stabbing inspite of the intelligence that we have now on how to treat these types of injures by our medical staff. I doubt it grately that Jesus would survive in the tomb with a stab wound for 3 days without medical assistance even by todays standard. otherwise i believe that the medical staff in those days were by far better than those in my country.

4. Wolfechu (821) | 3 months ago | I've yet to be convinced he existed to be nailed to anything, let alone rose from the dead. Bible aside (which, let's face it, isn't going to argue the case against), the historical records from the period are scanty about him, to say the least. There's more evidence to suggest Shakespeare existed, and a lot of people are sceptical about that.

positiveminded1977 (2801) | 3 months ago | Hi Wolfechu, yes you are right when you say that the historical records are scanty. I read somewhere that there is absolutely no contemporary writings about Jesus. All that was written about Jesus was written more than half a century after his death. I must say I was somewhat surprised when I learned this because I was sure that history was sure of his existence. Cheers and thanks for the response!

5. daffodil1949 (947) | 3 months ago | I don't even know whether Jesus is history or not.Religion is preparing for life after death. Let me first cross the life. I only see that I am not going to do any harm to the Gods. Gods are O.K. but the people who protect them are very dangerous! I ardently pray to God to protect me from me from them. Keep posting when you learn more about Jesus.

7. everlasting (10037) | 3 months ago | Have you read Holy blood holy grail? In this book, it is said that he survived and was able to bear kids. They were hidden and lived a secluded life. It was said that some royalties have his blood in their veins. If that is true, i do not see anything wrong with this. There are believers that are so narrow minded who will never accept this.

positiveminded1977 (2801) | 3 months ago | I haven't read "Holy blood holy grail." I have only read "Da vinci code." Wish I could read this one though. Do you think it is in the public domain and a copy would be available online? Cheers and thanks for the response!

everlasting (10037) | 3 months ago | the writers of this book was first harassed by the vatican, Then, when the dan brown's novels appeared, they sued him for using some of what they have written without permission. holy blood and holy grail is non fiction while dan brown's novels are fictions.

8. zigzagbuddha (1367) | 3 months ago | Jesus Christ was most likely homosexual, and probably a pedophile, so I sincerely doubt that he and the wh0re ran off together to marry and have children after he managed to survive his crucifixion because of lackadaisical Roman centurions... who were certainly not Jewish I might add. Personally I suspect that the story of him walking out of his tomb after 3 days is a parable to illustrate that there is not death. Spirit is eternal, it does not die it just transforms.

positiveminded1977 (2801) | 3 months ago | Well, it looks like the clergy are his faithful followers, doesn't it? LOL! The little Catholic newspaper in my locality, which caters to the needs of the faithful only, doesn't even mention the word pedophile, but it did repeat the Pope's sermon word by word.;) Cheers and thanks for the response

headhunter525 (1124) | 2 months ago | zigzagbuddha, I don't think the Roman soldiers would have let him survive crucifixion because they were experts in that. And moreover, if they let go of such a 'criminal' who claimed to be king, they would have to pay with their own life. And moreover if Jesus survived why on earth would the disciples pay with their own life defending that Jesus is risen from the death. Why held on to such a conspiracy and then end up paying with their own life to defend that conspiracy? It's quite possible that if's it's a conspiracy then at some point some disciples would tell the 'truth' when the persecution becomes to tough. After who wants to be burnt as torch! The genre of the text telling the story of resurrection does not allow us to interpret that it's a parable. And moreover there is no evidences that Jesus was at all a homosexual.

In fact, it is a prime Hindu belief.:) I don't know whether to believe it or not because I can't remember any of my past lives. But, it sure sounds more exciting than going to hell, and I hope it is true.:) Cheers and thanks for the response.
