Did you see the myLot alert message just now?

It just popped up a bit ago, but because it sits in the upper left corner of the page, there was a time I never noticed it, and I suspect I'm not alone.
Anyway, I copied the text of it and wanted to let you all know what they said just in case you didn't see it.
"Just a quick heads-up that myLot will be down briefly at approximately 10:45 AM central time in the US (GMT-6) while we make some improvements. The down time should be approximately 5-10 minutes."
Now - for this to be a discussion in the true sense, have you ever seen these alerts before and, if so, how long did it take you to notice them?

Yes I saw it, hard not too when it pops up across the top of my page. There have been a few of these just recently as they have been doing a lot of changes to myLots layout. I always notice them straightaway when I am on here .

You see, I don't notice them until I scroll up - they hide in the upper left corner and don't scroll with the screen. I'd rather they popped up in the viewable area, regardless of where you are on the page. That way, there's no chance of their being missed.
Have they always had these or was the first one the announcement of the layout changes?

hi jerzgir; nope did not see it, wow I was not very observant
but yesterday was an odd day for me so I did not get on my computer til almost eleven so that must have been over
by then. I have seen the other ones which did not give
any time at all, so caught me with a response ready to send
and lost the response. twice that happened so if they tell us the exact time it saves a lot of work on our part.

Alerts are common. They usually don't give an exact time the site will be down though. Uf they are not upgrading the system you could go 6 months or more without seeing another one.

Cool. Thanks. These were my first experience with them, so I didn't know if they were part of the upgrade or not. I just know there were some who claimed to not know they would be down during the upgrade and said they should have been told. That's part of the reason I posted this - to make sure everyone saw, because I assumed there were some who didn't notice them. But, I also wanted to know if others had seen them before and when they first saw one, how quickly did they notice it.

That could be - if you signed on after 10:45 this morning, then it would be gone, I'm sure since that's when they were shutting down. Thanks for responding, though. I'd never seen them before the upgrade alert, so I thought they were new. I'm still learning.

No, I have not seen such messages before.May be, it is for the benefit of all the members, who may think otherwise about the site, if the such message is not received by them.

I believe they are universal messages, but it seemed some didn't see them when they announced the layout changes, so I thought I'd share the one just in case someone didn't notice them.
I've wondered if I was the only one who didn't see them initially. They seem small and inconspicuous in design. But, now you know about them and about the shutdown today. That's still a good thing, even if it was this way.

I took a nap during the time they were doing whatever it was. I'm glad people see it - I just wasn't sure because there were so many (well, a noticeable number) who were upset before saying they hadn't been told the site would be down. I wanted to be sure that info was out.

I have not seen it. This is common as some sites let us know as a pop up window and other give in the homepage of the site which scrolls. But in whatever form it is the users are conveyed about the temporary shut down.

hi friend, i think i found the alert message about the updating of mylot in a short time when i login into my account.I saw there was a alert message on the upper left of the main page.so when i read it, i know mylot will improve its function in a certain time.I think as long as we pay a little attention on this, we will find it easily. em]happy[/em] em]happy[/em] em]happy[/em]

Hard to say - sounds more like tweaking what's already done. The first time, they were offline for more than 5-10 minutes. And, I have to wonder - are these alerts part of the changes or did they always have them, because I didn't see them until they announced the layout changes.
I still haven't figured out what "new features" they added.

I have seen a few such alert messages since being a member here on mylot. Sometimes they are simple messages like todays and other times they have lead to full out discussions. I always notice them as soon as I log in.
