How do you view the value of FORGIVENESS?

it takes alot from me to be forgiving. i know u shouldn't be that way but if someone really hurts me i'm a long time getting over it & i never forget. again i know that is not the way to be but i am.

The world would be a better place if everyone adapted your point of view. You covered all of my feelings. The complete idea is to forgive and forget.

It's possible to forgive someone, but a person might have a hard time letting the memory go.
Why spend so much time carrying around a load of sadness and negativity? It drags you down.

I tell people to travel lightly. and that requires letting go of every negative experience or upsetting emotions. (that's a brief summary)

I hope many mylotters come across this discussion and decide to change over to your way of thinking, if they have never learned the value of "I forgive you."

I believe forgiveness can be an empowering thing. It isn't always the easiest thing to do but it tells something about your character if you are able to forgive somebody for a wrong doing. It is also not easy to forget for some people sometimes. I believe you are right. Freedom can come from forgiving.

"Forgive yourself. Forgive others." We should also forgive ourselves before we forget others, there are times when we put ourselves down or when we cannot fully accept something. Something that we feel we are at fault or something that has caused us pain. First of all we should learn to let go, let go of pain, let go of anger or hatred, for ourselves and for others. After that, it would be much easier to forgive other people. Forgiveness begins with one's self. I agree with you that forgiveness means freedom. It is not nice to bottle up anger, hatred or any negative emotions towards someone or one's self. When we forgive, we feel relieved and soothed from such emotions. I also agree with you that forgiveness is like a new beginning. Anothe chance to make things right and good.

It's a weird one for me as if somebody did something and then apologised then I can hopefully forgive them. However even if sometimes I forgive somebody I can never really forget what they did especially if it was bad so I think I would rather not forgive them as then really I would be lying as I obviously hadn't actually forgiven them! I also don't feel anything better about accepting somebodies forgiveness either so I guess it's just the way I am! x
