Canned or Frozen? |
|
I'm confronted with a easy to assemble dinner for my self and the kids tonight. The frozen steaks has been defrosted and seasoned. A package of "Pillsbury" dinner rolls in the oven with only 20 minutes left before they're done. Now comes the problem, "mixed vegetables"! I have it both in can form and frozen form and it would take almost the same amount of time to cook it. I would feel like I'm feeding everyone healthy food if I used the frozen vegetables on the other hand the canned vegetables are ready to go in the pot. Besides the obvious choice of choosing fresh picked from the garden vegetables, If you need to make a 'quick' dinner, what would you choose canned or frozen?

1. welikemoney (267) | 3 months ago | I usually go with frozen because they're healthier:) But you have to use the canned veggies at SOME point, so really it's your call. I'm hungry...I need to quit reading all these food posts...

3. ravinskye (4683) | 3 months ago | I usually mix it up through out the week that way they get both. I didn't realise that one was better for you than the other though. I thought as long as it was vegetables it was all good. I like fresh veggies best though. Next year we're going to plant a garden so we have lots on hand.

4. walijo2008 (1559) | 3 months ago | I would go for frozen, I think they taste better than canned and they don't have all the sodium that canned veggies do, if your looking for something more healthy. I buy frozen veggies that are in steam bags, all you have to do is put them in the microwave a few minutes and they come out like steamed veggies, and they aren't that much more expensive.

Frozen are the better choice becasue of lower sodium, but if I dont want to bother with them, I will use the canned. The rest of your meal sounds pretty healthy so if you want to make the caned I think that is probably ok. I use fruits in place of veggies alot becasue I dont really like them that much.

7. danishcanadian (14659) | 3 months ago | Frozen can be boiled and drained. As you said canned vegetables are ready to go in e pot now. Why not the frozen ones? Jus throw them in some water. Me? I would have enither. I use use freh egetables and I would steam them.

8. desertdarlene (5652) | 3 months ago | I would definitely go with the frozen vegetables because they are the closest to fresh vegetables that you can get without having them go bad as fast. Canned vegetables are so full of added sodium and sometimes even added sugar, so I would only eat them as a last resort. Plus, the frozen ones taste so much better and more natural than the canned ones. They don't take very long to cook, especially if you are steaming or microwaving them.

10. momalisa65 (975) | 3 months ago | I don't even buy canned vegetables. The frozen are healthier. They don't take that long to make. If you start them at the same time you start everything else, they should all be done around the same time.
