Hi Debs_place,
Oh gosh! are you ok? the bat won't harm you just leave all the windows open and switch all lights off it will go, I had one many years ago when my cat brought it in and I left the bat in a box with its lid open and went to bed next day it was gone, it went out the open bedroom window, its a good thing my husband didn't wake up and see a bat hovering over him, he he he.

We have bats all over outside. I am scared more might fly in if I did that. This is not my first experience with them. But those are stories for another time.

I have not had something like that happen before. I have only seen them flying around outside at night. But if you can find a way to keep it in one room and open the door or window that it came in by. Cut off the strong lights and it might find it's way out. I know they see better at night then with lights. If it's in the house it will try to find a dark spot. I hope it helps be safe and careful.

Turn out the lights, and turn on an outside light and open the door. That is the way we had gotten the last one out. I looked pretty silly, holding our front door open seeings as to how we live on a busy street, but it worked.

I was scared to do that, I was concerned another bat might fly in. There is a bat colony about 100 ft from the door right at that level.

Well, I hope you've gotten it out by now. When I was a teenager we had a bat in our house. We openned the sliding glass door and my brother tried to sweep it out with a broom. We turned the tv up really loud because we thought they didn't like loud noise. It did leave after a while, but I don't remember much more about it other than we had just made cinimon rolls and it walked all over them so we had to throw them out.

Oh, so the bat didn't make it? That doesn't sound like fun. At least the crisis is over - give the hubby an extra smootch for that one!

A waste of cinnamon rolls. I am glad you got him out.
My house was confusing for it. I have a raised ranch, with a shed ceiling in the living room. A ceiling fan in the kitchen, a pass-thru from the kitchen to the dining room. a fan in the living room, another in the dining room and a house fan. So air was coming from it in every direction. And I think the fans really disorient them.
My husband, my hero came home for his lunch and knocked the be-jous out of it with the broom. I have to scrub the carpet to get the body imprint up off of it.
But the crisis is over.

Oh my, that doesn't sound good, although I confess I would prefer a bat to mice or roaches hehehehehehe
I am not sure what to suggest but wouldn't it go out to "hunt" during the night?
I guess you need to know how he got in in the first place to make sure he doesn't come back, but it seems that he just entered the house by mistake and is probably wanting to leave as much as you want it too LOL
Good luck:)

I have one old dog who has to be pushed out the door in good weather and he is worse in the rain, I'll bet that he got in last night while i was pushing him out the door.
Well he just left in a sneaker box. My hubby, my hero, came home for lunch and nailed his tiny little butt.

I would be going out of my mind screaming and running for cover I hate those things they creep me out. I get all creeped out just for a fly swooping by my head I'm swinging to get it away from me though my cat then comes to the rescue chaseing it and the games on and yes my cat wins. I praise him for it every time he is so good at catching things. I was gonna suggest you closeing it in a room but saw in one of your replis that your house is open so you can't do that hmmm...
I would call animal cotrol and have some one sent out to get it caught. I wish you the best of luck on this and may you have that bat caught soon for that's sounds creepy. :)

Thanks, I know how you feel about swooping things I am not fond of insects either and bats are way worse. You are lucky you cat does that if you had a bat, I would be concerned about rabies.
My husband came home for lunch and came to my rescue.

A very mean sadistic person I use to know thought it was funny to go where bats were hunting and toss small pebbles up in the air and strike the pebble as it came down with a tennis racket. Why? Often times the bats are fooled into thinking the pebble is an insect and will dive on it. You could not in a million years track the bat with your eyes and hit it, but if you swing at the pebble you often times will hit the bat as it is headed toward the pebble. I don't know if this would work in doors, but who knows.
Other than that, open doors and windows and herd the bat with your broom until he leaves out a convient exit.

My husband came in and found the bat where it had been hanging one of the times I spotted it. He hit it with the broom figuring he would stun it. THe little sucker dropped on the floor and flew away. He got it with the broom, 2nd swing. Little league and former baseball coach.
It went down, we covered it with a box, tried to get something under to get it out and it got. He nailed it with the broom, sent it bouncing across the floor and then squished it.
what an adventure.

I'm getting practised at de-Batting! They're like little flying Meeces..they'll cling to curtains,or end up on the floor at some point..just use a cloth to net the wee beggar, and carry it outside and let it go free..they're good at avoiding stuff like swinging brooms..let it settle down.they won't keep flying!

It did, but I don't know where, I am slowly looking around looking for it but I can't find it. I am hoping it did not go to another part of the house.

Bats don't hurt people. I think you can get rid of it when it's sleeping

bats carry rabies and I have 2 dogs that might decide to try and catch it. I don't like them. Sure if I could find it. It was hanging over my head in a picture frame and I did not realize it until it flew out.
