Grandma's turning 90! | | This weekend I am going to a family reunion that I don't normally go to. It's my Grandmother's brothers and sisters descendants. I don't know many of the people there, most of them are my mother's cousins and their children and grandchildren. My grandmother was the youngest and is the only one left of her generation. The reason I'm going this year though is because she's just turned 90 and we're celebrating her birhtday (it's a surprise) at the reunion. She loves going to this reunion, it's all her neices and nephews and their kids. It'll be like a mini-reunion inside of a reunion because most of my aunts, uncles, cousins, neices and nephews will be there. I'm really looking forward to it!!!

When the first son was a baby we all went and took pictures for the local paper. Now he's 3 and there's another baby.

She is the youngest of all the children in the family and the only sibling alive. She has a really bad heart and has had several mini strokes. Her days are numbered.

reinydawn (4236) | 1 year ago | Wow, are you sure you're not related to me? I stopped by to see my grandma a month or so ago when we were up that way and she had no clue who I was. I'm pretty sure that having my hair pulled up in a ponytail didn't help any. I think if I had let it down she might have recognized me. I'm wearing it down tomorrow.
Although my grandma has been in and out of the hospitals and such the last few years I think she's got a bit of life left in here. I wouldn't be surprised if she made it to 100, but I don't know what kind of mental capacity she'll have...

teapotmommommerced (5724) | 1 year ago | My poor Granny has run away from the board and care home twice and tell stories that everyone is steeling from her. The poor thing needs to lay down and rest if you know what I mean. It hurts so to see her so angry at all for doing things that they did not do. She thinks I stole all her money, she thinks I even told people to call her and ask for money and we would split it. Now why would I take her money? She really believes what she is saying that is the sad part that she thinks her grand daughters have done all this bad stuff to her.

reinydawn (4236) | 1 year ago | Unfortunately, that's one of the "side effects" of dimentia. I worked in a retirement community for about 7 years and got very familiar with that (even though I only worked in the billing department). It's very hard because they are so confused and they don't remember things so they try to fill in the gaps. And sometimes it's easier for them to be angry at someone they know and love instead of dwelling on what is happening to them. Keep loving her and letting her know that. I wish you the best.
Oh, we had a great time today, and for the most part Grandma even knew who most of us were. She didn't recognize me last month when we stopped to see her, but knew me right away today. She called my cousin (her granddaughter that she sees the most) her neice and had a hard time finding her daughter (my aunt). But I think all in all it was a great day for her. (AND US!)

These women have such stories to tell. Can you imagine the history they were a part of and probably made? Anyway, I hope you have lots of fun and make some happy memories while you're there.
