How often do you visit your neighbours???????????? |
|
Hi Mylloters How often do you visit your neighbours, and vice versa or are you also of the private type? One of the reasons I'm asking this question is an article I read today on CNN about a 70 year-old diabetic man who had been blind for years, and who was found dead in his house sitting on a couch in front of a blaring tv set. The strange thing is that he has been dead for over a year in that very position, and even stranger is that his neighbours assumed, when they did not see him all that time, that he was in hospital or a long-term care facility. In fact, the police only found him after investigating a report of a burst water pipe, which means that if it was not for the report he would've continued sitting in front of the tv set for who knows how long. My point is that had his neighbours visted him regularly, the situation would definitely have been different. So, is visiting neighbours something that should be encouraged, does it have any benefits or should they just be left unto themselves on the possible basis that you just can't be bothered or your neighbours most probably have their own circle of friends? Also, do neighbours visit each other in your country?

But we are approaching days when this would become an obvious end to most of us. Just imagine our lifestyle today. Most live ion multi storied buildings alone and we have no time to peek in next door. we hardly care and stop for others. we have forgotten to smile, pat, hug and hold hands!! having said this, I live in an old neighborhood where I have grown up with aunts, uncles, grand ma, grand pas around. Its like a beautiful community and even though I hardly visit others my mom is very good in socialising. she has her buinch of friends and they party off and on. I scold her many times but this incident made me realise little of it in fact so good!! Thanks for sharing this.

6. crunkyjens (371) | 1 month ago | That is a very sad sad story. You have to wonder though why put the blame on his neighbors? What about his family members? You mean to tell me not one family member ever tried to call him or get ahold of him? I always wave at my neighbors when I see them and say hi and ask how they are doing but that is the extent of it. I never spend more than 5-10 minutes talking to them nor do I hang out with them. If that makes me a bad person so be it.

Darshu (353) | 1 month ago | hey crunky i don't know about his relatives and how much they are close to the old men, but i think nowadays friends as well as neighbors are more closer then relatives except mother & father. What you say. I also talk to my neighbors always but not more than 10 - 15 minutes. I agree on you:)

7. Wyldrose (344) | 1 month ago | I live down a gravel road with only a few houses on my road. But I do know my neighbors and three of us walk together for exercise. The others are about the same age group and we always talk when we see each other out and about. I agree, though, neighbors need to be checked on once in a while. This was a really sad story you sent and hopefully it will open people's eyes. Thanks for sharing.:)

8. carolbee (4171) | 1 month ago | I see the neighbors outside on a regular basis. The people directly next door to us are older so if I didn't see them go out to get their mail or leave the house in their car for awhile, I'd go over there or call their daughter. I don't visit them because the wife is rather annoying. She's always questioning me about religion or something I do not care to talk about. She's a bit senile as well. I heard this story on television and it's hard to understand how this man was dead in a chair for over a year. I would think the utility companies or other sources would be calling to discuss an overdue bill. There would be a red flag somewhere. Never seeing any trashcans outside should have been some concern. Mail piling up in the mailbox would also be strange. Yes, neighbors visit each other in our country. I respect our neighbor's privacy and won't go ring doorbells to visit. Many also work away from the house.
