| 1. terribleturtle (64) | 1 year ago | Many people love rap music. I am not one of them, but banning it is a little controlling IMO.
Just because some people think its bad or dislike it, doesn't give them the right to dictate to others what they can or cannot do think or feel.
If we were to ban everything some people hate, our world would cease to exist. I guarantee that someone out there would find something new to hate and ban every day until there was nothing left to ban.
I really don't care for the style myself and agree that its foul and spreading hate and influencing the young to act in a manner thats inappropriate.
But banning it would be just plain wrong. Sorry to disagree on this, but we have too many people out there now trying to ban things that they see as harmful or that they dislike.

Bertman410 (212) | 1 year ago | Yeah I think banning it kind of contolling. Gangsta Rap has been banned from the radio since the 90's. You can't ban the people from making it anyways lol. All I got to say is that to understand Rap you have to have been in the type of situations that Rap artist are rapping about. Now I'm not saying that all Rap artist that rap are telling the truth in what they say but some of them do. Back to what I said about being in the situation in what they Rap about... If you aint never be on a crack drug deal or been around drug dealers then your not going to understand what they are talking about and why they talk about carring guns etc. And I dont understand why people have such a problem with cussing... It part or the language we speak and there just words..... Rap is just like any other type of music its a way of expression and everybody expresses there views differently.... And just because you don't like how some one expresses their views doesn't mean you can just get rid of it...

myklj999 (7262) | 1 year ago | I really don't like most hip hop or rap, but I do the sensible thing; I just don't listen to it. There's no need to ban it; just turn it off if you don't like it.

4. oraclemv (2498) | 1 year ago | Then there wouldn't be anymore hip hop dance! The entire hip hop community is going to have to come up with a new style that isn't hip hop, like getting rid of saggy pants! That's the only benefit I see with getting rid of it, forcing a new style upon the hip hop culture.

5. skydancer (1301) | 1 year ago | I have to agree to the first response to this topic that proposing a ban on HipHop would be very controlling - like running a dictatorship, and that is not something I would support even though I do not like most rap and hip-hop music for all the reasons that you mentioned. Sometimes I go through periods where I wish I could ban all the things that I absolutely loathe from this world, but that could never be a good thing for anyone who believes in the freedom of the people to live their lives as they please. I'm free to take it or leave it and that is enough for me.
What I hate is the cussing that is in the lyrics as well as the fact that the subject matter (which is often quite vile) is always same old, same old... It certainly is not something I could be forced to listen to every day of my life and still keep a cool head. It's just ick... because it bears no muse. I would certainly wouldn't allow a lot of it to be played in my presence (or I would go somewhere else if I didn't have any control over the music being played)... that's for sure.

6. LadyMarissa (2729) | 1 year ago | NO I don't agree. YES it is crap. However, I do feel they have the right to express themselves. I remember when the Beatles first came out. Parents wanted them banned because their hair was too long & their music too suggestive. Today the Beatles are considered one of the best groups to ever be around. Just think of all the great music that would have never been heard if they had been banned. I don't want anybody deciding what I can or cannot listen to except me. If I want to listen to it then I think I should have that right. If I don't want to listen to it, then I have the right not to buy it. If you ban gansta, where would it stop? Books/Movies/TV Shows/or what else???
Sounds to me like you listen to a lot of gansta. You seem to know a lot about it.

7. fluffnflowers (1368) | 1 year ago | Funny, funny. I'm not a fan of rap, hip hop, or whatever you want to call it, but it's very easy to not listen to it. It can't upset you if you don't listen to it. Those same guys and girls that want to be a gangsta because they listen to rap would want to be pirates because they saw it on TV. You can't exactly cage the easily influenced or obliterate them. Sorry.
Dunno if you've heard other popular music, but there's plenty of raunchy music played on 'kid friendly' stations. It's just more subliminal, which strikes me as somewhat worse.
To each his own...

8. Xdrowninghavocx (3056) | 1 year ago | I personally don't think any type of music is misused. It's a form of expression, even though it's incredibly hard to defend it these days. And banning something is a little harsh for something like music. I find that it's annoying when someone glamorizes something as serious as the gangster image. And that's the main reason why some of hip hop needs to change. But banning isn't something that should be done. I may not be a hip hop fan, but taking away a freedom isn't the way to go. My suggestion is to not pay attention to it.

10. dogsnme (598) | 1 year ago | I absolutely hate rap, hip hop, whatever you want to call it. However I agree that banning it is wrong at least when you are talking about allowing the government or some other regulatory agency to impose a ban. It would be best to let the consumer impose the ban by simply not buying the music or refusing to listen to radio stations that play the music. By doing this you force the artists to change the message or at least to refrain from using some of the offensive language. It would work if you could get enough people to support this type of ban.

SHUGA81 (223) | 1 year ago | Lets ban rock n roll too. They use nasty languages too. I listen to rock and I hear just as much nasty language as I do hear in hip hop but you don't see hip hop fans jumping out and saying, "BAN ROCK!!!".
