Cola and Osteoporosis: A Dangerous Link?

Hi Norman, this is an old story. Both Cola and Pepsi have a rotten reputation; still people love poisoning their systems with it. Well, I guess they are free to do as they wish. In Punjab, farmers use these two as pesticides. It is the urban people who are the most stupid. In rural areas, people simply hate these two companies because they simply dry up the earth's resources of underground water. I wouldn't touch either cola or pepsi with a ten-foot pole, but I am sure the world is full of cola and pepsi lovers. Why else do these companies thrive?

thanks for doing all the search jobs just to post something that would be beneficial to mylotters' health and well being. i believe the fact that cola really has yet some more health risks. as a matter of fact, i was once a cola addict that unexpectedly i was almost about to get a stomach ulcer. good enough, i did prompt for a consult with a gastro-enterologist and thank God i was able to intervene ahead of time. yet, i still have this so called GERD or gastro esophageal reflux disease consequently, which sets me not to take anything caffeinated like coffee, chocolate, energy drinks and cola.
and this reminds me one thing, everything should be taken in moderation!

You are so kind and concern to our health..because of your informative health topics posted here, I'm a aware now of my health..I mean, I became health conscious..Thanks to you!..I really don't drink cola and pepsi because I am an acidic person..It's really true that this 2 beverage companies don't realize the bad effect of their product..Hope this study will be done soon..I don't want to have osteoporosis when i grow old..That's why, it's better to drink fruit juices rather than beverages..Keep up my friend.

Regular female cola drinkers have a higher risk of developing osteoporosis..This is true my friend. We women, all of us must cut down the consumption of colas..Drinking natural beverages like juices is still the best for our health sake. Nice posting!

Thanks for the research. I've been hearing that colas were causing or aggravating osteoporosis, but I didn't research it much. I had just supposed it was the carbonation and that all fizzy drinks were to blame. I don't drink colas very often mainly because of the other ingredients in them that aren't useful or are harmful such as either sugar or artificial sweetener.

Hi! :) Thanks for posting this as this is truly a serious problem for so long, yet almost everyone does not mind drinking a cola or two, even me.

Carbonated drinks, especially Coke and Pepsi have caffeine in them. Quoting Bart Simpson when his sister Lisa was telling their mom that he's drinking Coffee "It's just hot Coke". Yes, there are colas with no sugar but we have never seen any cola that is decaffeinated :P For people prone to osteoporosis, especially women of menopausal age, they must try to avoid drinking coffee/cola because caffeine contributes to bone breakdown. As I've read somewhere from MayoClinic.com, caffeine may interfere with Calcium absorption. It is also a "diruetic", meaning the person is made to urinate often. This causes excretion of minerals such as calcium.
