Bees in my garden! |
| |
| I was busy pruning my crotons in my front garden when something seems terribly wrong! My index finger hurts so much! when I inspected closely, there are several bees feasting on my finger and some started to sting me in the face! I ran inside the house and apply vinegar to the bee stings. I can not believe that those bees whom I ignored in my yellow vine started building their hives in the front garden! I sprayed insecticides right away so that my kids will not experience that pain of being stung by these bees! I did the spraying with a heavy heart because bees (and even some insects) are becoming less in population. I have watched a documentary on bees at Nat Geo and there is this virus that attacked bees so that they are disappearing so fast. Bees help pollinate flowering trees and if they disappear, our food chain will be affected. I wish the bees in my garden will just stay on the yellow vine (located at the back of the house) because they visit its flowers every morning. I hate using insecticides because they are harmful even to us humans. Any ideas how I will keep them away from the front garden? | | | | | |

| | It is okay Ruby! Sometimes I pressed the caps lock and just continue with typing. If there is a couple in your greenhouse, I will nor be surprised if they already have a hive there. | | | |

| | Are you sure they were bees? Bees usually don't sting unless you frighten them or swat them. There are a lot of hornets this year and they sting with a lot less provocation. | | | | | | |

| | I accidentally touched their hive hidden in the big leaves! I do not know it was there in the first place. | | | |

| | First, Everlasting, I hope your stings are getting better! As for the bees - if they are bees and have made a nest - although it is justifiable, not to mention therapeutic, to zap them with chemicals, you probably want to get someone to remove it. You would only get the bees that were zapped directly and those that are inside the hive could continue their work. Look for someone selling homemade honey in the area and get them to come over and look. Hornets may nest and have a really nasty habit of stinging, and a beekeeper will be able to determine the beastie and address the problem. A good beekeeper will be able to relocate the nest to a more appropriate place. | | | | | | |

| | Thank you, the stings are better now. We put some smoke under the hive and my neighbors removed it by covering it with a sack. They burn the whole hive! i know there are other hives hidden in my yellow vine which these bees love but I will not bother them. | | | |

| | Do you know what species of bee they are? it would be a big help in determining what to do, but I really wouldnt kill off any wild colonies unless they are somewhere that you will walk into them easily, bees do so much good. Its much more important to teach your children to be calm and respectful around bees, thay won't sting unless they feel threatened as stinging kills them, so it shoul dbe perfectly possible to have children and bees together. We keep bees so I have had experience of this. | | | | | | |

| | Yeah, i am okay now and no more sore fingers! We just rremove the bees in front and let them live at the back where my yellow vine is. We manually pollinate our squash and melons so that we can have more fruits. | | | |

| | Here in the Philippines, our veggies are manually pillinated so all the female flowers become fruits. | | | |
