I have an Eye Sty.. It Hurts :( Any suggestions.....where do they come from?...  

I think I had one years and years ago.. I remember the same feeling I have now. What the heck is it? I wash my hands constantly, I just want it to go away.. do you think it is worth a trip to the Dr? I would HATE to pass this to my son... he is only 2!

Oh my! Is it dangerous?.. Is it something I can pass to my son?

How the heck do you get them?.. If it does finally burst.. does it cause any ill effects on you sight? I am really worried about this sty. :(

No it is not contagious but its exactly like a pimple so you do want to wash your hands. And once it bursts then your eye will naturally flush it out. Mine normally would burst after I would go to sleep and my eye would be kind of pulsy the next morning but then its gone. There is really nothing that you can do to prevent it. Its kind of like people that have bad acne. Some people get one and never again and others get them often. I used to get them alot as a kid but haven't had one in probally 20 years.

Whew! TY I was so worried I could pass it onto my son. Not so sure how much you know.. but if I may impose and ask a few questions.. like.. what about my makeup.. mascara.. toss it.. have I contaminated it?.. Can I pass it to my other eye?.. Now I feel my other eye getting that "glassy" feeling.. YIKES, all this scares me LOl Sorry to be a burden.. but ty for your advice!

okay I just looked it up it is a blocked oil gland causing a pimple so there is some bacteria but it is not contageous

You should really change your makeup every 6 months and never ever let anyone use it. The biggest infection with shared makeup is conjunctivitis which can make your life a total hell for a few day and it is very contageous. Like everything else bacteria finds a way to get on everything. Don't panic, everything will be okay. Your son is safe around a sty, but if your eye oozes I would still make sure to wash your hands thoroughly after rubbing your eye. What I knew of things getting in your eye is it partially true because something has to block the oil gland right?

Hi Karen.. thanks again for the reply.. I mean the ONLY thing I can think of doing was going to sleep with make-up on ( I know shh), well when I woke up I felt this big ol clump of mascara on my eyelash.. so I proceed to pluck it off, think taht caused it?

Carp! I just did my nieces make-up for Prom and I used my own.. this was a month before the sty.. I won't be doing that again!

Now my eye is "twitching" also... do you think it could be nerves? I am going thru alot at work now... think it is related?

nanci I believe this is a normal reaction of your eye trying to get something out. Just keep on soaking your sty darlin and I am sure you will be okay. The way you are going you are going to cause yourself to have an anxiety attack lol. It could be nerves but heck my eye will switch with or without a sty.

It feels like it is in the outside corner of my eye and at the upper lid, like if you were looking at yourself in the mirror, right above your pupil. I do not think it is inside.. maybe the one on the corner.. man I am so confused LOL

Apply the hot compress and observe if the swelling starts to subside, if it doesn't, then you'll just have to consult your physician.

The swelling may even get a little worse before it is ready to release the ooze. same thing as a pimple it will come to a head, let it pop on its own do not try to pop it. oil gland hair folicals it is like an ingrown hair sometimes. Some things must fester before popping and exposing of the bacteria. Therefore getting more swollen.

A pimple? Great and Thank you, I will try this. When it "pops" it won't cause an infection will it?
