Have you ever heard of Peanut Butter Buckeyes?

I had someone ask me the other day to make some of them. I think they would be pretty simple to make, so I am going to try it tomorrow morning. They are balls of this peanut butter mixture dipped in melted chocolate most of the way, but so that you can still see the peanut butter. They look like buckeyes when you are done. So tell me, have you ever heard of Peanut Butter Buckeyes before? If so, have you ever tried them?

Yes, hehe, I live on Ohio, so they are quite the thing around here. I like them a lot, though people only tend to make them around Christmas. I have seen them for sale in stores though, I took a couple of packages to a potluck and they were quite the hit. I didn't have any to bring home (not that i would have minded... ).

Hmmm, white chocolate.... I have never heard of anyone making them that way. It sounds interesting, though white chocolate is not really my thing. If you make those you will have to tell me how they turn out.

The white chocolate ones were a hit. I need to make more of both of them now.

I don't think I have tried them before. It sounds interesting. I'm sure my wife would like to try such a treat. The pictures and recipe I found seem nice and simple. I like the ones where the take the trouble to cover the toothpick hole. One pictures shows a small heart shape perhaps made of hard candy or a fruit rollup. That looks like an endearing touch. In wonder if the heart was being used to cover the toothpick hole. Anyway, you might also try a toffee-buckeye by crushing up some of your homemade toffee and mixing it with the peanut butter. I don't know how well it would come out in practice, but in theory it seems interesting.

Toffee in them sounds interesting. I might try that. I am sure I will have plenty of volunteer test subjects if I do make them.

I used to help my mom make them for weddings and special occasions. They're so yummy. They're my brother's favorite sweet. I remember they were always a big hit, especially with the kids, and would always be the first sweet to disappear.

My son loves the filling for them. He could take or leave the chocolate.

I have made them....as for looking like buckeyes I had never thought of that and my recipe isn't called Peanut butter buckeyes...but they sound like the same thing. They are very very good! Like a Reeses peanut butte cup!

I don't know if them being referred to as buckeyes is a regional thing or not.

I have had heard of them and I have had them. They are delicous. They are alot like the haomemade reeses peanut butter cups you can make. I tend to not make things like that becasue I would probably eat them all. Since you are good at making candy it shouldnt be a problem for you to make them.

Yes, they are easy to make. I only shaped and dunked about 20 of them. The rest of the mix is in the fridge. 14 of them went to the gas station. My 8 year old tried to eat the rest.

Yup! I make them every now and then for parties or family/friends who really like them. They're very tasty and much, much better (depending on how you make them, I guess) than Reese's Peanut Butter cups, which seems to be their closest commercial 'cousin'. Have fun making your buckeyes!

I have seen them in a gas station in Illinois once before. Some local company was making them. You are right, they are better than a Reese's.

I have never heard of them before. The picture looks really cool though and I think the boys would love them. We do make home made reese peanut butter cups here which the kids like but can only handle in very small doses. This looks pretty similar to that. I would like to try them out too. Make sure the boys don't get sore tummies though. LOL

I have never heard of them. They sound delicious. Which means they are fattening. Probably means I'd eat too many. lol Let me know if you find a recipe you like.
