Potty training, Pull ups vs. training pants |
|
Ok, it has been awhile since I have potty trained and I have all boys, so now I am trying to potty train my step grand daughter. The parents keep her in pull ups and I was wondering what other people's thoughts are on pull ups vs. old fashion training pants. Also she is 4 1/2 years old and is hearing impaired without the hearing aids, which don't stay in all of the time. Any advise? Views on the pull ups or training pants, which is better? Thanks for your time.

1. mamuzo (153) | 1 year ago | I am also potty training my 2 1/2 year old son . . . I have found that it is best to keep him in his training pants the whole day than pull up diapers. You see, when he is in his training pants and wets himself, he feels the wetness and get embarrassed and tries not to make himself wet again, but with pull up diapers, he wets and doesn't feel the wetness and probably thinks it's ok to wee in his pants as long as he doesn't feel it. I now put him in pull up diapers at night time only. I'd suggest you try the old fashion training panties for your granddaughter, at her age she should be able to learn quickly with them.

kaysue4 (627) | 1 year ago | Thank you. I am hoping to get this done in the month that I have her, my personal oppinion, I think they are just a bit lazy for the training. I am going to start today and try not to put panties on her for an hour and then have her sit. might be hard because I have 4 boys with the youngest being 13 and I don't want to have her running around with nothing on in front of them and thier friends. I have asked on Freecycle and Reuseitnetwork for some training pants and I hope I get a few pairs.

mamuzo (153) | 1 year ago | Good for you! Good luck with the training, I know the first week can get frustrating but just hang in there . . . and don't worry about her parents, there are some people that are just not too keen at these sort of things even when the child is theirs, at least they've got you. If you need at other tips or how I've come so far with my training just let me know!

kaysue4 (627) | 1 year ago | Geez, I don't know what I am doing wrong, but she doesn't even let the wetness faze her. She did go this morning while I was showing her videos for pee pee and poo poo songs on YouTube and she did stay dry while we went somewhere, but she doesn't get fazed with being wet at all!

mamuzo (153) | 1 year ago | Give her time but also communicate with her . . . as soon as you find her wet tell her she's been a bad a girl for wetting her panties and let her know that you are disappointed in her. Don't shout, you facial expression and your body language should show just how disappointed you are. When she's been good and was able to wee in the potty and stayed dry, tell her how good she's been and even perhaps reward that good behavior with a walk to the park or something (never reward with food or toys)and let her know why she's getting that reward. I hope this helps . . .

NEVER tell your child they have been bad when they have wee'd in pants - this is bad advice and could give the child a real complex. Instead, reward for successful wee's and poo's in potty.
