ALICE IN WONDERLAND - how many are .......

Ask your aunt to count up her bookshelf. I doubt you'll find a better answer here than from the mad hatter herself.

My former roommate used to work in a rare book library and they got a collection of Alice in Wonderland books from a collecter. I have no idea how many there were, but there were everything from pop-up books to a series of nearly pornographic pictures taken in, I think, Japan, early in the last century that claimed to be some how related.

I know I had for years a book called "Alice through the Election Booth" that spoofed the books, and the elections of the late '60's and early '70's. (For example they had Ted Kennedy dressed in dirty and stained white, along with other political figures of the time in a race while they all said "I'm not running."

For all I know, apart from the one written and re written by your aunt, the only version that has been written is by the original author of Alice In Wonderland, Charles Lutwidge Dodgson under the pseudonym Lewis Carroll. It was wonderful story and I think as a child it appealed to my imagination and I read it more than once, although I have to say that I do not remember the story anymore.

I do not believe that any more editions of the stories have been written exempting your aunt's versions. Although I have no proof to prove it, I'd say... Innocent until proven guilty...

According to Wikipedia there have ben over 100 edition since it was first published in 1865. My Grandmother used to read the story from a copy that she received as a child - she was born in 1890 - I saw that an original first edition was sold for $1.5million. Wonder which her edition was and whether my dad still has it!
