Guinea pig ears

So I got this new pet the other day - or rather, my daughter got it. A guinea pig, 6 weeks old.

It's very nice and cute. The only thing is that it has a weird black crusted sore at the etch of one of its ears, with half a milimeter (0.02 inches for the metric system impaired people overseas ;-) ) of white skin surrounding it. Anyone got an idea as to what that can be?

You might want to take him or her to the vet to get it checked out. If he/she was in a cage with other piggies, they might be healing bite marks. They could also be some sort of pest (fungal infection, lice, mites) that the piggie is itching open and will only get worse.

Sounds like it's probably fungal. Try some Monostat or similar antifungal cream or see www.guinealynx.info for other things you can use on guinea pig ear fungus.
