Do you still write and mail letters to people? |
|
Remember back in grade school one of the first things you learned soon after the mastering of the alphabet was how to write a formal letter? Today people have no real need to write a letter to anyone because in a few moments you are able to email them a quickly typed message with any font you choose and even attach a picture to it. I haven't wrote and mailed a letter to anyone since 1984. Even today when a letter may be needed for faxed or mailed documents, there are programs available to put on your PC so that you no longer have to format the letter correctly or really check your spelling.
When was the last time you could remember writing a formal letter on a piece of paper and mailing it to someone?

1. capirani (941) | 1 year ago | I used to exchange weekly letters with a couple of friends in different states. One was a special pen pal, and another a friend who moved away. Since getting the internet, I have stopped writing letters. Unfortunately, I lost almost all contact with these two friends and I really do miss the letter writing. It was nice having that bit of expectation as I waited to get a letter from one or the other of them. And it was a highlight of the day to read and respond to that letter. Our letters were very special. The internet has contributed to that loss of contact. On the other hand, it makes staying in touch with people a lot easier and faster....if they have the internet too. But has it made that contact less special? I don't know the answer to that. Time may tell. The last time I remember writing a real letter on paper and mailing it was a couple of years ago. The person I sent that letter to is dead now. He was a friend since high school and will be missed. He didn't have the internet, I didn't have a phone at the time, and he couldn't call long distance. The letter was the only means of contact.

2. Opal26 (10049) | 1 year ago | Hey mrghill, I don't remember when I last wrote a formal letter to someone, but I just wrote a letter to my Mom tonight. I actually wrote it by hand instead of typing it which I usually do. I needed a break from typing because I have been typing for awhile on mylot. It is true though I usually email or type a note to fax or type a note if it needs to go by snail mail. Mom doesn't have a computer so for her everything has to go snail mail.

4. mikeysmom (1994) | 1 year ago | the only thing i really mail to people anymore are birthday cards if they live too far away to give them in person. i never write letters anymore. if i have your email address that is how i really prefer to keep in touch. with prices so high and the economy in a downward slump i am not even buying christmas cards and stamps to send them this year. i have to cut back everywhere i can because of gas prices and my husband's business being so slow.

| 7. abbiebianca (80) | 1 year ago | The generation today doesn't write letters to each other already because of the internet and cellphones. They usually call them or just email or chat with them. It's easier and more convenient than writing a letter and mailing it. In writing a letter and mailing it, you will still pay for the stamp and the letter will be received by the receiver in a few days time. Sometimes it comes in delay. But ift you use email or chat they receive it right away.

| 8. srainow (40) | 1 year ago | The last letter i can remember was written in 2004, when i was still a fresh person in university. To be Honest, I really don't like the email, only the words written by a pen can touch my feelings. but now, we are all so dependent on PC that onbody wants to write a real letter. I think this is a disadvantage of PC technique. Peoper are becoming cooler and cooler. we should always remember the nature of our life - Love. Right?

mrghill (1982) | 1 year ago | I don't think people are becoming "cooler" because of the conveniences of modern technology, but there is a lost aspect of humanity from people not writing a letter to someone anymore. Thanks for responding!

9. clowdine (885) | 1 year ago | I've never done that in a long time. I guess it's been almost a decade. I sent a few application letters back then. I guess, I'm going to have to do that soon for my Alertpay account verification. They require their users to send in a valid photo ID and billing statement by snail mail. It's good for some users who don't have a credit and/or debit card since Paypal, on the other hand, requires any of those cards. The only thing that worries me is the security of the information while the envelope containing those documents is being transported.
