Why Are Wedding Rings Worn On The Left Hand?  

There is no definitive explanation, but it used to be said that vein which runs up the ring finger of the left hand connects directly with the heart...

I am not sure to be honest! But maybe it is because a majority of people are actually right handed, so by putting the rings on the left hand there is less chance of the jewellery being damaged because this is the hand that is not used as often? Much the same as most right handed people will wear their watch on their left wrist..... Just a theory!

I honestly think that it is nothing more than the fact that the mass majority of people are right handed and rings cause calluses when that hand is used a lot and if you are righthanded that is the hand is more likely to look rougher, cut, broken nails etc. Purely a vanity a thing I think!

I am married and I don't wear my ring on the left hand, because in my religion and that is Orthodox we are teach to wear it on our right hand.
And it is always put on the particular finger.
So, I can't give you the answer about wearing wedding ring on the left hand.

This is a complete guess off the top of my head but perhaps the right hand is supposed to belong to God?

I think the rings are supposed to symbolise eternity because they're round so resemble and endless circle.

I like the idea of the Father/Son/and Holy Chost and then the ring.

The wedding ring has been traditionally worn on the third finger of the left hand. Basically through carelessness in cataloguing human anatomy the ring finger was thought to be the connecting vein to the heart, evolved from the Greeks, and continued to Western culture. Romans plagiarizing Greek anatomy charts adopted the ring practice without question. This also became the Roman physician's "healing finger", used to stir mixture of drugs. Since the finger's vein supposedly ran to the heart, any potentially toxic concoction would be readily recognized by a doctor "in his heart" before being administered to a patient.

There is some funny explanation about that, though the medical world might disagree. A nerve, believing to begin at the ring finger of the left hand, connects directly to the heart. That's why couples wear the ring on their ring finger to keep their significant others "close to their heart." Now, of course, the fashion is changing, and many people wear their rings on the right hand too. And some don't bother to wear it.
