Do you regreat your carrer life? |
| |
| Well just wondering? asking this because i am going through this. Well i mean that i am doing engineering in IT. I mean i am studing that that right. Got three more yrs to go before i finish it. But now i think after 2 years of engieering that i am not really interested in it. and want to something else like maybe advertising or public relations or something like that. Or something like event management. My interests are going there. Kind of very confused i am at this position.you know like should i shift my stream now? or something like that?? have you also gone through any thing like this or is it just me? Have you also felt at some point of time, that you could also have done better or something else in life? | | question mark | | | | |

| | If you're really not interested in engineering, better to change now than to work in that field for years and years and hate it. This is what studying is for, to decide what you're interested in and sometimes you need to change several times before you decide. Go with what you're interested in, definitely. I often think I could have done something else! And who knows, maybe I will! | | | | | | |

| | Well, having gone half way through your course already, if I were you, I would continue it all the way and finish it. Rather than change right now and decide that it is not the line for you. Then making another switch would leave you with nothing. If you want to know what it is like to be in advertising or in public relations, you can always take a part time course in it to see if that is really what you like. Otherwise, I am sure your faculty has some sort of cross faculty modules that you can take. Take up one or two modules related to your interest. Then you make a decision to see if engineering it the way to go for you. Even in engineering, there are sale positions. Advertising using CGI is also something you can look at. Or Public relations like pre-sales solutions. Or post sales solutions? These are things that you can still do even in the engineering line. | | | | | | |

| | Well, take my advise. Stick with the course that you are with. It could be the burnout talking rite now. If you want to try out the other route of work, you can always try out mini projects in those line of work first. You know, take up part time jobs during your breaks. Then make a decision after that. Best if you at least complete the current course simply because you already put in so much effort and money and time in it. Don't waste that effort. For PR jobs, you can always take up some role in the student union to organize functions. For advertising, well, there are heck of a lot of bazaars, functions, fairs, concerts... that the school is always organizing. Get into one of them and see how you like advertising for those functions. | | | |

| | you are soo correct. well then what can i do anyways? i cant even continue this course becasue i keep failing, becasue since i have no interest i really dont even study for it. I dont know why am i ruining my life.I really want to quit engineering and want to do something else in life but then i cant do that becasue my age is also going up and if i quit now i will have to sacrifice 4 more years of my life. Again. Man i really dont know what i will do. Anyways thanks buddy for replying here again. Happy mylotting buddy:) | | | |

| | Well, one thing is for sure. You got thus far in your course, I am sure you will be able to complete it. You just need to pull your socks a little. Force yourself to look at the notes. Copy from friends if you must to learn how to solve tutorials and projects. Do something about it rather than wallow in your self pity! WAKE UP! No one is going to help you if you are not going to help yourself! Like I said, look forward to doing what you like by joining committees. Organize events for your faculty. Then mean while, study hard and finish the course. You are at a stage now where you do not have to worry about anything else other than your homework and your project datelines. Enjoy while you can! | | | |

| | Dear friend, Whatever you study, it will help you to do your dream job better. Because, higher education is not only learning a specific subject. It is about maturing, making a person able to face practical difficulties of the real world. I think engineering will give you more common sense than any other course to view this world more enthusiasm, especially in IT, you can turn your dream job of event management and artistical skills more profitable with your degree in engineering. So, my advise is to continue doing your course and gain more knowledge in your IT and public relations, advertising and whatever you like. My case was not so different. | | | | | | |

| | Hi, if you seriously feel that this field is not what you want, then maybe you should switch. Do you have a career counsellor in your university or college, who can advise you? Well, I had my training in computer science and started my career in IT - programming, system design and analysis. Somewhere in my career, I moved out to do marketing in IT products - it was easy, because it involves technical selling. From then, my career moved totally to marketing; now I'm a marketing professional in management training. To me, it didn't really matter what academic qualifications I started with. Many of us didn't work in the professions that we got our degrees for. However, it's important that we complete the course to get the degree. | | | | | | |

| | I totally having the same situation where I felt I am not applying what I have learn. For me, I have worked for more than 5 years in marketing for some consumer goods. But surprisingly I have a strong banking and finance degree. Sometimes, during alumni gathering I could see how some of my ex-classmates are doing so well in their banking or finance industry. I don't seems to have the knowledge anymore when communicating with them regarding this field. I regretted at that time. However, I did ask myself many times will I be really happy if i go to banking and finance just because I am applying what i have learn? No i think. I prefer to meet people and get creative. After 6 months working in bank, i switched to marketing and advertising line until now. I am actually quite contented with this line. I think is alright to complete your studies and try out your engineering work since you have started 2 years! You still have many choices after your work because you will know what you actually want to do. Enjoy! | | | | | | |

| | Hi cyberkunal. I am sorry for you that you are bored with your course. But think a little bit more about change. Your course is something that have future in our world and I think that will be good for your future. If you like to meet people and interact with them so you can become a teacher and for that you need to finish your course and make a master degree. Or you can make softwares for events or shows. I think that you will have many options if you finish your course. You already thought that you can change and after that discover that you make a wrong thing? You can choose a wrong carrer again. Give more time to your self before take a decision as you said you are confuse now. I think that it is normal get tired or bored in the half of the course. Anyway it is your life and I hope that you will make the best choice. All the best and cheers my friend. | | | | | | |

| | Just finish your engineering course somehow. Then you do as you wish. It will be better if you have some degree with you. You will feel more secure and confident. My suggestion is to finish your degree first. Take Care. All The best. | | | | | | |

| | i disagree somehow. don't get me wrong, vidhyavini. you have a good point though. however, i would rather choose to change or shift to another course as early as possible. he has three years more to go so, might shift as well to the path he's really interested in taking. | | | |

Just a high school pass. Damm isnt that bad. I feel so low about myself now. I am so much in mixed emotions. Well anyways thanks for replying here :) happy mylotting :) | | | |

| | Hey finishing engineering degree is not a big matter man. Just one night stand before the exam. Wherever we go we need a qualification. First complete it. You will gain confidence. Then you can go on with your interest. As a guy age won matter much for you. I guess so. Sorry if i am wrong. | | | |

| | Well you are correct, But then if i quit now. I will come back to the initial stage .Again spend 4 years more to get a graduation degree. Well i woul dwaste my more and more time. I am already 21. I really dont know what to do. Well anyways i think i should just slap myself and should somehow make some interest in my own engineering degree.Well that would only help me i guess. Anyways thanks for replying here again buddy :) | | | |

| | i am a pharmacist by profession. however, at first, it was my parents who forced me into taking the b.s. pharmacy course. i am more interested in numbers and so, i wanted to be a civil engineer. my parents, both engineers disapproved of my plan. they wanted me to be a pharmacist and be different. i did not get mad at them at all. i followed their instincts and just after a few months of being in the course, i found myself starting to love science as well. i do love my career and i am not regreting even if i was just forced at first by my parents to become a pharmacist. in your case, follow your heart and your desire. if you feel like you don't like where you're going, change course. you still have three years to go in your present studies and it's not to late to shift. just think a lot before shifting though so you won't have any regrets in the end. | | | | | | |

Well i am a total idiot. Am so much in mixed emotions and i know i am ruining my carrer too. Well but then i dont know i feel like i am wasting my time here an i really dont belong here and that i could be somewhere else in which i have total interests. anyways thanks for replying here :) happy mylotting :).
