How do you choose books to read? |
|
Depending on the Genre? Randomly any from the bestseller list? Bank on the book reviews you read? Opinion of friends who share simliar interests? Whatever you can obtain for free? Based on the author? Synopsis? Book cover?
For me, I'll usually start with two books at a time. One will be fiction and another non-fiction. In fiction, I mostly choose thrillers or mysteries, and of course the author matters to me as well. As for Non-fiction, I pick from the best-seller list, I don't mind whoever the author is.
How about you? What is your criterion for choosing books to read?

1. danishcanadian (20214) | 1 year ago | I usually choose books to read by topic, and if I read books by the same author, I make sure that they cover pretty much the same typic, or topics that interest me,. I would not read a book on something that totally disinterests me just because it was written by a certain author. There are authors that I like because they constantly write books that are of interest to me.

I_LUV_U (935) | 1 year ago | I'm quite the opposite, I have right away bought the book at times, when it was one from the authors I liked, without knowing much about the book. What genres of books interest you?

2. saigonwarrior (709) | 1 year ago | I normally go for the fantasy/weird/mystery type read. I become bored easily with non-fiction type books. I need a good story to become absorbed in as I normally read to escape from real life. I have a few favorite authors that I lean heavily towards when purchasing a book.

I_LUV_U (935) | 1 year ago | Well, I quite like non-fiction, but it should have some interesting, rational stuff. If it is of the "all bark and no bite" type, I would not prefer reading it. Like, it should have some interesting anecdotes and not just plain boring lectures or advices for me to learn.

3. maryannemax (10433) | 1 year ago | i am not much of a book reader. but when i feel like i wanna read one, i choose something depending on the story. i look at the title and if it looks interesting, i go to the last page and read a little summary (introduction) of the story. if i feel like i will be hooked to it, i buy it (or borrow) and start reading it at once.

4. worldwise1 (6097) | 1 year ago | I generally tend to choose books by my favorite authors, LUV, but I will sometimes buy a book based upon a good review. I am also a fan of series books. If I like the first book in a series I tend to also like the follow-up books.

worldwise1 (6097) | 1 year ago | Some of my favorite authors include James Lee Burke, creator of the Dave Robicheaux series -among others; Sherilyn Kenyon, the Dark Hunter series; Nora Roberts, who is very adept at the trilogy; and Christine Feehan, who has a really great series about ghostwalkers(paramilitary). You should be able to find info on all of them if you Google their names.

cwilson26 (1610) | 1 year ago | The Nora Roberts Trilogies are awesome! Have you read her series under her pen name, J.D. Robb yet? They are the "In Death" series and I cannot get enough of them. I have read a bunch already but still have a good bit more to go.
I also love Nora Roberts Vampire trilogies!:)

6. getnbuy (1020) | 1 year ago | I pick books that friends recommend. I also read reviews and decide from there.I have some favorite authors, too. If I like a book by a certain author, I will try another one. This doesn't always work out, though. I have had one book be great and the next book be a real dog. I appreciate, too, knowing if a book could be classified as "R" rated. Very often I am reading along and am suddenly stunned by what I have run in to!I wish book reviews would rate them somehow.

8. deebomb (8972) | 1 year ago | When I decide to purchase a new or different book it is usually because the author, art work and the title catches my eye. Then I read the back of the book (I only buy paper back books)I then check out the author if it is a new one to me. I don't pay any attention to what the best sellers list recommend because I have found that I don't agree with them. The only book That I read from the best sellers list was Dan Brown's Da Vinci code because of all the hipe it was causing. It was a disappointment for me.
