I'll be having my 2d echo next month...What is this all about? It is an echocardiogram (also called an echo), a type of ultrasound test that uses high-pitched sound waves that are sent through a device called a transducer. The device picks up echoes of the sound waves as they bounce off the different parts of your heart. These echoes are turned into moving pictures of your heart that can be seen on a video screen. This is to be done to:Look for the cause of abnormal heart sounds (murmurs or clicks), an enlarged heart, unexplained chest pains, shortness of breath, or irregular heartbeats.
Check the thickness and movement of the heart wall.
Look at the heart valves and check how well they work.
See how well an artificial heart valve is working.
Measure the size and shape of the heart's chambers.
Check the ability of your heart chambers to pump blood (cardiac performance). During an echocardiogram, your doctor can calculate how much blood your heart is pumping during each heartbeat (ejection fraction). You might have a low ejection fraction if you have heart failure.
Detect a disease that affects the heart muscle and the way it pumps, such as cardiomyopathy.
Look for blood clots and tumors inside the heart.
I'm looking forward for the good result so I can stop my maintenance injection thus it will not be a lifetime injection coz I really can't take it anymore. This will be my 6th 2d echo I guess and i really hope that everything will be cleared.Having a heart problem at a young age is too difficult, you do enjoy your life but you have a lot of limitations.Physically active but physiologically ill,too bad...hehe but anyway,I'm on the process of recuperating so hope everything will turn out fine. Wish me luck my friends!

Hi... Well, when I was at the age of 17 (3 years ago)I already undergo this kind of test because I have a problem in heart which cause me unexplained chest pains and irregular heartbeats.. The result of the test isn't good.. The doctor advice my parents for the operation since I am scared for the operation, it just gave me medical treatment.. Thanks God, I am still alive even almost everyday I suffer from pain in my chest.. But I just didn't mind it since my body is already numb of this kind of pain..
By the way, is this your first time to undergo this kind of test?? If yes then don't be scared.. You won't feel any pain.. Just let your mind and body be relax and don't think of any scared so that it will not affect the test... Just relax.. I'll promise you that you won't really feel any pain in this test...
I wish you would have a good result... Be strong, ok??
Happy posting

Oh! That's bad.. 6 times already.. Well, I didn't undergo another test because I'm so tired of undergo different kind of test and still no new in the result.. So, when I got into college even though my parents will get mad of me, I always escape from going to doctor for check-up cause I know that they will send me again to the laboratory for the test and I know that same result they will give.. So, I'd rather not hear what is really wrong with me... And besides I know that I can carry myself and I know how to cure my illness alone..
I am so hard headed..
Well, just be strong.. I know you can do it.. Just be strong and always think positive and most of all never lose hope..

Dear Bestie
Firstly, Wishing you lots and lits of luck and I a sure that your heart function will improve for you have taken care of it sufficiently. Today, congenital heart disease is curable with so many advances in medical science. I know of someone very close who didn't have to undergo surgery, which she thought she might have to, and doing very well. The murmur has reduced and the ASD is narrowing.
So, dear, good luck from the bottom of heart. And do take care of yourselves. We all have to, isn't it?

Hi there! I wish you all the best of health and everything positive about the procedure. I and my husband had undergone the same procedure a year ago because we were concern about our the condition of our heart..just for medical clearance purposes since we both are actively playing tennis every day. Don't worry, everything will be fine with God's help.
Good luck and stay healthy all the time!

Hi bestie. I certainly do wish you the best when you have your echo. I too have heart problems and have had several echos done. The only difference is I am an old lady, not a young girl.
I'm so sorry to hear that you have heart trouble at such a young age. Has a diagnosis been made for you?
Good luck to you.

My deep sympathy for you had been trough, you're young but keep spirited for live. For that I could only give you two thumbs up. You go girl! You know, I have a 13 years old student in school who has thalasemia, she already lost one of her kidney, but she has a lot of spirited to keep on living, she's keep going for school even if she can't walk normally (hikshikshiks), so I guess maybe both of you share the same spirit... wish you all the best luck...
