HP Laptop: How to reduce physical memory | | | | I bought the HP Laptop (entertainmnt series) in Feburary 2008. It has Windows Vista.Since then a lot of activity has happened on this poor thing. Loading and unloading various programmes and features, games and visiting arbit sites in the hope of getting online work and freebies. I know, sounds like how can someone be such a dud. But when you have a lot of time at your disposal then you tend to do such things. I don't know about others but I did. And now my poor friend, the laptop, is facing serious issues with its physical memory. No marks for guessing that it was done through all the overload of installing and un-installing. I guess? I am not very technically sound but have an idea that if I reformat my dear laptop then it will get a new lease of life. But if I do so then all the important documents might be lost. I know, you guys will suggest to move the information to some other source, either online or physically. But, lazy me, cannot handle so much of extra work. Many will say, Vista is sad. It is any day slower than XP. But that doesn't solve my problem. So how can I reduce the physical memory of my laptop? Any good souls who are willing to help with a genuine solution please leave a note for me. I would be glad to give it a try and see if it works. Hopefully my dear laptop, who seems slow, lethargic and gives up running a programme at times, will spring back to its old self. | | | | | | | | | | laptop Ditch Your Old Computer! | | Your using a relatively new computer with vista in it, you probably just need a system cleanup, try CCleaner maybe it will do the job for you, get it here http://www.filehippo.com/download_ccleaner/ before you go for a very tedious format routine. | | Thankyou. I just downloaded this programme. It looks promising. Can you suggest me what all things do I mark with a tick for a clean up so that my necessary files don't get affected. And another question, as you are the first person to help me, can I add you as a friend? | | | | ferdzNK (2318)

| | Wow, I miss this one, and I see it has been answered. About defrag, in XP I could defrag while doing something, try it in your vista, but if your free space is larger than the biggest file in your disc, you don't need defarg yet. | | | | | | | laptop Ditch Your Old Computer! | | I would also suggest a program like CCleaner. Just leave the selection as the default and you will be fine. I would then also suggest running a defrag on the HDD. If you right click on the icon for your C Drive and select properties then you will see a tab for tools and if you click that you will see a button for defrag. I would run that and see how that goes. | | Thanks James, I tried defragmenting it a couple of times but it takes ages. Eventually I leave the process mid-way. Usually, how long does it take to defrag. And is it really helpful to perform this on HP regularly because their site says so. | | | | | | | Ask a HP Technician 12 Technicians Are Online. Ask a Question, Get an Answer ASAP. | | hi. ccleaner is one of the opportunities, but i would recommend tuneup utilities. i like that program because there is such thing as auto maintenance. it cleans cache of your browsers, cleans temp directories and so on. it even fixes issues with registry. i haven't had any problems since i use it. more over like there was mentioned earlier, you should defragment your hdd. i woul recommend not to use vista defragmenter. use O&O Defrag. it has such opportunity to not only defrag hdd but even move files in one place. just use the defragment method called space. no free clusters in hdd, so all new info is written in order and it is easier to work for your laptop. just try these tips and i hope you will see the difference. | | | | | | | | | | Top 10 Garbage Disposals And Consumer Feeedback.
