Do you have an SUV?

I saw the funniest thing yesterday driving home from work. I was driving behind a Hummer, you know, the giant SUV. Well, there is some construction near my work when there is quite a bumpy area near the train tracks. This guy slows downn to practically nothing to crawl over the train tracks, and the small section of road that was gravel. So, my question is, why in the world would you buy a Hummer, or an Escalade or some other giant SUV if you can't go over a bump??? Isn't that what they are designed for? Why buy a vehicle like that if you're so afraid to chip the shiny paint. So, just to let you know Hummer driver, I'm still laughing at you.

Oh too funny - I can just picture it. Maybe he didn't want to scratch that hummer after spending a zillion dollars for it :) I don't understand it but I really think some people buy those things just for show, not to actually use for what they were designed for.

I guess it's a status thing. I think they look like dorks.

Most of the ones that buy a Hummer or Escalade, don't buy it for the 4 wheel drive capabilities. They buy it (including my sister who has a H3) for the looks, for the name, etc. They don't buy them because they go hunting, rock climbing, or live in the country. My sister lives in a big city! Not much use for it there lol. Personally there are other SUV's that I would choose over the Hummer or Escalade, but then again, I like to go camping, throwing wood in it, taking the dog along, etc. We do have a 4-Runner, which my s/o drives to work in the snow, we take it camping, and I take the dog with me whenever I can. I'm with you, I would have been laughing too.

It was funny. I don't think you'll ever see wood, or dirt or anything in the back of this vehicle.

Only in my dreams LOL makes me wonder why they buy them in the first place other than to show off.

my partner drives an SUV and i share in that decision to get one. if i am driving behind that hummer, i think i'll laugh my head off too. SUVs are MADE to negotiate such roads. why else would one want to get a vehicle like that? i won't say we treat our vehicle roughly but we certainly make use of this advantage to the fullest. however, there could be some reasons why this guy actually slowed down so much. he might have a baby asleep in the vehicle that he doesn't want to wake up. he also might have a passenger who is sick/injured and couldn't take the bumpy ride. it could also be because he is carrying something that is very fragile so he try to lessen any impact. cheers ;p
