Research in Patrick and Henry Counties of VA?

My maiden name is CLARK. I have been trying to go back on this line for over 30 years. My line was in WV and OH for sure. The earlier generation is a bit sticky. Everyone tells me that Lambert CLARK was the father of my ancestor George Washington CLARK. He lived next door to Shepherd CLARK and I think he was also close to James CLARK, which are Lamberts sons. But when I got a copy of George's marriage lic. from his second marriage to Rebecca ANGUISH, it not only showed his last name as BLAKE but it gave his fathers name as Samuel CLARK. And it showed his mother's name, although you can't read it. Only it did start with R. Which Lamberts wife's name was Ruhanna, so that fits.
At one time I found a marriage record for Samuel Clark and Ruhanna Shepherd. And the date is the same as some people show for Lambert and Ruhanna's marriage.
So, if Lambert is really Samuel, then my line would go back to MD.
I just have a hard time with this one because in the census there is both a Samuel and a Lambert CLARK. Where the heck did BLAKE come in. Sometimes I wonder if Samuel died and he was raised by a BLAKE. But because of legeal papers needing "real" names, he gave Samuel.
Just one of those mysteries that drives you crazy. All researchers swear it is Lambert.

Hi there, I'm not doing any research on that area but I think I"m familiar with it. Are you referring to Patrick Henry where the Airport is. I grew up in that area and I do remember hearing about some Clarks. I think they were our neighbors, I will have to ask my Mom about it the next time that we talk. I would love to know what made my mom and dad move into that area. It's a bustling little community now but back when I lived there it was only sticks and a few stones. Good luck in your research.
