Do you have a Nanny/Yaya when you were a kid? |
|
I don't know in other countries, but here in the Philippines we usually have nannies to take care of young children. Yea, I think I had 6 Yaya's in all. They left me one by one, only the last one stayed until I was 11 or 12 years old. I don't know why. I don't think I'm a brat. In fact, I think I'm not so hard to take care of as claimed by my father.=P hehe. How about you?

nrtan2000 (1027) | 1 year ago | Hi dong! Yea, you know it feels good to know that our yaya's somehow learned to love us and they feel like a part of the family, too. Thanks for sharing.=) I also heard that some people's yaya stays from one generation to the next. Meaning, she's the yaya of the father and later on became the yaya of his son. hehe.

3. dolce_vita78 (4669) | 1 year ago | Hi there nrtan2000!
When I was younger, my parents would leave me in the care of my maternal grandparents most of the time. There were also times when they would leave me with my paternal grandparents. In some instances, my aunts (mom's younger sisters) would take care of me if my parents have to be away for a while. They did not get me any nanny. I am thankful that I was never taken care of by any stranger.

nrtan2000 (1027) | 1 year ago | Hi shamrack! Thank you for sharing. I'm glad to know more about your culture. Hmm, I see. I guess we have similarities. Not all families here in the Philippines hire a nanny/yaya. Some mothers or grandmothers are also the ones who takes care of their kids or grandkids.=)

7. chingbeem (408) | 1 year ago | Yes.My brothers and sister had one each. Plus the cook and every one else. My mom used to tend a store so plenty of help were needed. It was like there were always too many people around. My mom was a very good cook and baker. she would make wedding cakes and siopao and empanandas in our dirty kitchen. We really needed lots of help then but mom was always at home. when I got married, my dad will send us 2 maids because he says if we only get 1, she will get bored right away. Since my husband was only earning so-so at that time, my dad paid the maids-hehehe. so kind of him. He deosnt want to see his eldest daughter with out a maid.LOL Now, since the kids are 16 and 17, we only have 1 help. She sleeps a lot and doesnt do her duties. Grrr. We cant let her go because her parents are the care takers of our farm. If we let her go home, we will have to add meal allowance to her parents.I just dont mind her. It will only cause stress. She is left alone in the house the whole day so I just wrtie the things I want her to do. example-recipee for sinigang(sour stew) so she can prepare our dinner.plus step by step procedure on how to clean the bathroom, the list goes on and on. That way, I dont need to talk so much.We just go easy on her...she is a family, no choice.

nrtan2000 (1027) | 1 year ago | Hi ching! hehe. That's cute. Yea, most nannies extend their care from generation to generations. hehe! By the way, that's a good idea of trying to control her without getting angry or anything. Hmm. Some of our helpers in the workplace and here in the house are just one family, too. So most of the time we are careful of how we deal with them, especially that we need them because we've trusted them with so many things already. hehe. But it's not so bad, I think there are lots of advantages, too. Since they're with us for a long time already, I'm sure they feel like one of our family, too. Thus, they care for us much more compared to other helpers.=) Thanks for your response!
