ADHD, another disorder or doctors' over acting?

ADHD, Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder Mostly diagnosed are kids. The first time I saw this on TV I couldn't believe what I was hearing, a disorder/diagnosis for kids who have short attention span, who seems like he lacks attention, and is most of the time hyperactive. But aren't kids supposed to be that way? Do you think this disorder is valid?

No, it really is a disorder. You should see my husband's cousin. He won't stay put even for one minute! The doctors' are (sadly) right.

Yeah ADHD people are hyper, but being hyper shouldn't be a disorder. It's the way life is. I don't understand why it has to be labled a disorder. It's not a disorder.

really... I know those are the symptoms, I guess, it seems that its normal for people to have limited attention span and once in a while not stay put in one place for a long time...

it is most definitely a valid disorder as it is a chemical imbalance in the brain. But like it was said,it is used far too often.People are so quick to coin the phrase as it takes the responsibility away from them.

Right now the easiest way to get away from the real world is to become or pretend you're sick. I'm not saying that everyone with an imbalance or a disorder is making things up. Its just that something as normal as to be hyperactive and unconsciously inattentive becomes a disorder that needs to be medicated. I just feel sorry for the children who have to go through this. It would be very sad ans irritating if you were diagnosed with ADD/ADHD and actually not having it.

My sister once told me that kids with ADHD just need a good whoopin && some tough love! LOL! But on that note, just last year the school was sending out letters to me && calling me asking me if my daughter had ADHD. We had her tested && sure enough they say she does, but there is nothing we can really do about it. I say lots of love && LOTS of patients! Because I wont put my child on medication. I hear to many horror stories of these kids being put on medication to help with the ADHD, but then end up having heart failur... not taking the chance here. I know it can be stressful to have a child with ADHD, but I don't think it's a real big issue right now. It's ADHD, not a big deal. Not to me anyways && trust me, my daughter is a wild card! LOL! I also have a son with Autism, now they are two different characters for sure... Some people compare Autism && ADHD to eachother but Autism is actually the serious disorder that needs more attention right now. I do think ADHD is over diagnosed. Kids will be kids, some are just more hyper then others.

Yes, I do. However I think it is overused. I think that only a small fraction of kids diagoneosed with ADHD actually have it. I think that anytimea kid is dispruptive professionals want to offer that as a diagnoisi when really there a number of factiors that could be causing these issues. A careful diagnosis ruling out phyical and emotional causes need to be made.

I agree, children of today are actually hyperactive, and it is hard to distinguish which on had ADD/ADHD from a kid who has not. I hope researchers may find a breakthrough wherein they can find a chemical differenct between a kid with no ADD/ADHD from one who has it,

When my son was 4 years old people were telling me I should have him diagnosed for ADHD. Well he is now 11 and not nearly as hyper as he was back then. What I find odd is how a child who's diagnosed with ADHD can sit and play video games for hours and hours on end. I think it's just an excuse to medicate children. I hear so many people say they want to diagnose their child with ADHD when the child is really just acting their age, and perhaps needs a bit more discipline. Kids are hyper, that's the bottom line. All kids are different. Some can be more hyper than others, that doesn't mean there's something wrong with them.
