Do you think the Church should become more tolerant? |
|
I saw on the news last night that a church in Sydney has been threatened with being kicked out of the catholic faith if they do not stop two practices. One was allowing women to participate in giving the service. Other Christian churches allow women to be priests but they have a problem with women bishops as that gives women authority over males.
The other practice was allowing homosexuals to take communion. The members of the congregation said that it was not right to condemn these people to spiritual exile just because homosexuality is considered wrong. They are still believers and need spiritual support.
I do not think they are threatening the congregation with excommunication but more a case of removing the whole church. Then the members of that church would have to go to a another catholic church to practice their faith.
Do you think it is time the catholic church became more tolerant? Are they not being hypocritical condemning homosexuals while some of their priests have been found guilty of sex crimes?

Women have proven that they are able to perform at the highest level and it is time the church stopped being so sexist.
As for their attacks on homosexuals it is totally wrong to condemn someone for their sexuality. People are born with this sexuality so how can it possibly be against God's desire. Since they believe we are all made in God's image and these people are born with this sexuality then God must approve.

I have no problem with following what the Bible says and don't take offense to them reserving positions for men. As for not giving the sacraments to homosexuals, I have to agree with the congregation. I'm a hate the sin, not the sinner person. I think only God has the right to judge.

Many of the books in the bible were written by male priests after Jesus died and follow the patriachal attitude towards women that their role in life is simply to bear children and be subservient to men. The catholics tell men to honor their mother but not their wife. This causes major problems.
I am a woman. I cannot and will not accept that this is my only purpose in being alive. I cannot accept that a woman who is no longer a virgin is nothing but scum. This is just men wanting to rule the world and has nothing to do with God at all. I grew up in a patriarchal household and I rebelled against it. I have a mind, I have ideas I have a right to express them. I have no interest in a religion that tells me I am a second class person just because I am female.
I do not accept that people are born in sin. I think the invention of sin was one of the worst things that religion ever did to people, it has left them full of guilt because they were born with a different sexual orientation or because they were born women.

sharra1 (3034) | 1 year ago | I agree with you but the Catholic church still has a lot of political influence and power. I have met Catholics who would doubt their own minds if the pope told them to. I met a girl once who was a mathematician but she said that if the pope told her that 2 and 2 did not equal 4 she would believe him because he was the pope even though she knows that this would be believing a lie.
To me this says that they are brainwashed. I knew a woman once who lost her faith when she found out the priest had lied to her.
