Is Obama just another Jimmy Carter?  email this discussion to a friend?

This author seems to think so, and the parallels between the two campaigns and the national attitude are eerily similar and by no means should be discounted out of hand.

Anyone who does so is willfully ignorant of history.

In 1976 so anxious were voters for change and fresh faces that they ignored their doubts about Carter's inexperience and questionable policies and took a chance-- to this nation's great detriment.

Carter was a HUGE disappointment to the nation and his policies only made a difficult situation worse.

Obama, like Carter, demonstrates no ability to lead a nation and has no record with which to judge his future ability. Just charisma and charm and ALOT of empty promises.

I can always count on you to find articles like this.
I thought that, after reading that article, that it is kind of eerie.
It always surprises me when I hear so many people that back Obama saying what a great leader he is and what a good President he will make. Some of these people are moved to tears when he speaks.
I'm thinking that the rest of the world has a point now... Americans are stupid.
Or at least they are half right.
I hope that the new blood in McCains camp will energize the country and make them see through the pomp of the DNC to the real issues. Half of America is putting our future on a platform of empty promises and little more.

I can't wait for the debates.
Obama is a great speech maker, but sometimes has trouble with head to head debates where his teleprompter is unavailable.
The VP debates should be even more exciting.

I know...I think I'm MORE excited about the VP debates than I am about the prospect of listening to Obama spout off about how we need more government to fix the problems.

Here's the think I find most notable about Obama's choice of VP and McCain's:

Obama TALKS about change but then picks Biden as his running mate. Biden is a staunch member of the DC political machine.

Obama could have only been more party line if he had picked Teddy Kennedy.

McCain talks about change and then actually does something radical in the GOP; picks a woman VP with a stellar record of actually making changes and bucking the system.

So, when we compare McCain to Obama on BS vs action, McCain comes out the clear winner.

Oh, and if you like that article, you'll love this one. I wished I'd have used it instead:

One more thing I thought of earlier: Doesn't the media and Hollywood's obsession with Obama give anyone serious pause? Quite frankly, that display in Denver gave me a major case of the creeps, and I imagine lots of people who aren't blinded by the celebrity felt the same.

I said in another discussion that no one knew Obama's name until Oprah said it; isn't anyone but me uncomfortable letting a talk show host chose our next president?

Is electing a member of the Chicago political machine--second only in corruption to New Orleans, really a wise choice?

The whole event in Denver cost the DNC 33 million dollars without adding in the cost of the transformation of Ivesco Field, which had to be millions more.
It was a display of lavishness, the likes I've never seen in politics, and all of this coming from the man that would have us believe that he is going to bring us fiscal responsibility and accountability from the government all the while lowering taxes and paying for health care and education for everyone.
He boasts so proudly of making a success of himself all on his own through hard work and sacrifice, yet doesn't think that the average American is capable of doing so, and the government should just pay for it all.

The celebrity and medias love affair is something that defies explanation, I think that hes just the new cool thing and they can't wait to jump on the bandwagon, regardless of whether or not he can deliver on his apparently mesmerizing promises and personna.
The average joe out there is who the speech writers are targeting when they pen the words he so succesfully delivers.

I haven't even read the new article, I want to eat dinner first, so theres less of a chance of me losing my appetite.

Jimmy Carter is still a huge disappointment to this country and an embarrassment if you ask me. I think you're right, Obama would be Jimmy Carter and Al Gore all over again. They didn't do anything during office.
The only memorable things Jimmy has done was humiliating this country by "talking" to the enemy and starting Habitat for Humanity, after his term.
