I caused and accident today  |

 If this topic of discussion had never been created by our King, I would barely have a place to post, I wouldn't fit in anywhere as well as I do right here because it is what my life consists of.
This morning I dropped my daughter off at school and from there I proceeded to Target for baby formula, diapers, etc. So I was driving down the 441 and my cell phone recieved a picture mail, I knew I should have waited until I was stopped to view this message, but NOOOOOOOOO stupid idiot me had to open it, so as I was opening it and viewing the picture I had started to come up to the red light and slow down a little, but I wasn't paying close enough attention to my timing and I looked at the picture, and then back up at the light again and before I knew it I had to slam on my breaks hard in order to stop because there were cars right in front of me. Well I didn't hit any of them but a guy that was behind me rearended me because I had stopped so suddenly. He got out and was yelling up a storm at me, I told him to shut his mouth and calm the hell down. He called the cops and I WAS honest about why I stopped so abruptly, I told him I was looking at my phone. Guess who got the ticket? The guy that hit me! He got a ticket for failure to avoid a collision, for driving too closely. I felt really guilty, I asked the cop if he could give the guy a break, the cop said "I call them how I see them" I wasn't going to argue anymore. No damage was done to my SUV, I have a tow pkg. with a ball on the back and that protected my SUV and the guys truck had a steel front bumper and it didn't do anything to his either, it was a very slow moving impact so of course nobody got hurt. BUT IT IS MY FAULT:(

I don't lecture people for using their phones while driving, but please be careful next time. As for the guy behind you, he shouldn't have been following so closely to begin with. That irritates more than almost anything else.

Hell its always the person behind you fault, he shouldnt have been following so closely to you, and obviously he wasnt paying attention either since he didnt stop in time. Wonder if he got a txt msg or pic msg lol. Hell I wouldnt have felt guilty, I would have been damn glad I didnt get one since I dont have insurance right now lol.

He should have been looking ahead of you as well as himself and if he wasn't following so close he wouldn't have hit you. I believe rear end collisions are always the fault of the person in the rear.
I just hope the picture was good and worth all the trouble.

Youre lucky that your truck doesn't really doesn't have any damage. How does your neck and back feel today? That's where you usually hurt later. Glad to here it wasn't more serious!

I feel like I should have gotten a ticket though (not that I really want one) but I do feel like it was my fault even though the officer said that the guy was following to close to react to anything. I have learned my lesson, I'll stay off the phone. Normally I don't talk on it while I'm driving at all, I do have one of those hands-free ear peices and I will use it when I'm in the car but I was looking at a picture message this time, I'm such a dummy. | |

In an accident like that, the person behind is presumed to be at fault for not leaving enough following distance to stop. Anyway, I'm glad no one was hurt.

I don't talk on my cell phone while I'm driving any more because I noticed that my concentration is not very good while doing so.
From now on, you CAN wait until you get to your destination or pull into a parking lot if you feel you should be on your phone.
