nikon or canon?? pick one:)

I have a Nikon with an automatic sensor cleaner! So I don't know where you friends got their information...

My mom works as a professional photo editor, and she swears by Nikon! She edits photos taken by both Canon and Nikon DSLRs every day, and she says across the board the Nikon images look much better. The images taken with Nikon cameras have better tonal value, better dynamic range and better colors. She says photos taken with Canon cameras are a lot more dull. Of course, that can be fixed in Photoshop! But she says that photos taken with Nikon cameras need a lot less editing than cameras taken with Canons.

So if you don't want to spend a lot of time in photoshop, get a Nikon!

Hmmmm... Nikon D3 and Nikon D60 at no.9 & 10 of the list.

i own a nikon d70. why did i choose it? because: 1. ergonomics. the way a camera feels in hand is very important for me. comfort lets me concetrate on what i shoot, rather than holding the camera right and shooting.
2. it was cheaper than the canon 350D.:)
3. nikon has the best flash system.
4. fast(est) flash sync (my d70 can sync at 1/500, whereas most other cameras go only at 1/250).
5. the size of the camera. Now, many search for a camera that is as small as possible. well, i look for the opposite. if a camera is small, it's lighter, and, therefore, hand shaking appears faster.;)

about that ranking system on dpreview...hm...olympus has so sucky ergonomics. i wouldn't buy an olympus even if it had 300000 mp and in camera image stabilization and so on. and sony...well, i would buy a sony sound system, but, since we're in the digital photography realm... i would only go with nikon or canon.:)
in my opinion, top things to look for in a camera are:
- ergonomics.
- low noise at high isos
- fast focusing

and, depending of the photography you're planning to get the camera for, additional features (i.e. fast focus tracking if you're planning to do sports photography).

about the color in the images...hm...i read on most sites that nikon has duller colors, due to the fact that it exposes for the highlights. This may be, though, for older cameras (like my D70). Anyway, that can be adjusted with nikon camera control (you can set your camera's tone curve, which is pretty neat).

Here in the Philippines, photographers, hobbyists are divided into Canon and Nikon world. I've read a lot of discussions about which brand is better.

Based on my readings, here are some of the the comments I've read
1. Nikon's color are the best
2. Canon has service center, Nikon has no service center
3. Canon is more expensive
4. Cheap lenses of Canon has more chromatic aberration compared to Nikon

Me, I own a Nikon D80. This is my first DSLR. The only reason why I chose the Nikon brand because all my friends uses Nikon.

I like Nikon much more. In the past I had a Canon camera but it already broke three times. And one even happened when I had a travel. I had to go to fix it but it charged me so high. It didn't last long time and it was out of work again. Since that, I don't like Canon any more.

I teach and work in digital editing and used both Nikon and Canon cameras regularly. The main difference between the images that come to me are the way the camera has been set up by the photographer. If you compare RAW images from Nikon and Canon, the differences vanish.

There are more differences between models of the same brand than between brands. Each new model adds something and the competition between the major manufacturers guarantees that none get too big a jump on the others. My personal preference is for Canon: I just like the way the control systems work, and I find them logical and fast to use. In other words, thebeing is right! The ergonomics and sense that a camera is "right" for you is what counts.
